Connecting with Nature: Retreat House 'Nami-Tsuki' Wins Remodeling Award
Motoya United Co., Ltd., based in Kurashiki City, Okayama, proudly announces that its retreat facility, 'Nami-Tsuki', located in Oarai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, was honored with the Remodeling Award at the prestigious 38th Ibaraki Architectural Culture Awards. This event, hosted by the Ibaraki Prefectural Association of Architects, recognizes buildings that harmoniously blend with their surroundings while excelling in aesthetics and functionality.
The 'Nami-Tsuki' retreat house represents a thoughtful renovation of a historically significant wooden structure that originally served as a sake shop. This two-story building has been extensively refurbished to create a unique retreat experience. The first floor houses the 'CAFE & CHINESE KURAGE', a cafe and dining establishment offering innovative Chinese cuisine crafted with an abundance of locally sourced ingredients from Ibaraki Prefecture. Meanwhile, the second floor has been transformed into an exclusive private accommodation space designed for one group per day. This serene environment utilizes existing elements like traditional Japanese rooms and fixtures, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the tranquil, easy-going atmosphere that Oarai is known for.
Additionally, the retreat is equipped with a sauna tent and an event space, redefining the historic structure into a modern multifunctional facility that caters to various community needs. One of the architectural highlights of 'Nami-Tsuki' is its design, which incorporates galvanized steel and rust-treated materials to ensure aesthetic coherence with the scenic port town of Oarai, successfully merging local memories with contemporary elements.
The 'Nami-Tsuki' retreat house not only enhances the regional landscape but also creates a dynamic hub where locals and visitors can engage with one another. It serves as a vital place for fostering new connections between the local community and its visitors, promoting a deeper appreciation for the area's unique charm.
Guests can look forward to experiencing the tranquil and culturally rich environment of 'Nami-Tsuki', where the cycle of nature and human interaction can flourish.
