Shanghai Electric Collaborates for First Humanoid Robot Training Center in China

Shanghai Electric's Groundbreaking Initiative in Robotics Training



On March 11, 2025, Shanghai Electric announced a significant advancement in robotics education by launching China's inaugural training facility dedicated to heterogeneous humanoid robots. This pioneering initiative, dubbed the Humanoid Robot Kylin Training Ground, marks a critical milestone in the evolution of robotics within the nation and aims to train up to 1,000 general-purpose humanoid robots by the year 2027.

A Collaborative Effort


The establishment of this facility is a collaborative effort involving Shanghai Electric and nine prominent research enterprises, who have come together to sign an operational cooperation agreement with the State-Regional Center for Humanoid Robotics Innovation in Shanghai. This partnership is set to catalyze the implementation of humanoid robots across various industries, enhancing both productivity and safety.

During the opening ceremony, representatives from Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group outlined plans to expedite the deployment of humanoid robots in sectors that require innovative solutions. Programs are anticipated to encompass over ten industries, including equipment manufacturing, automotive, and home appliances.

Training for Tomorrow's Robots


Currently, the training center can accommodate more than 100 humanoid robots, making it the largest facility of its kind in China. Future expansions are planned to dramatically increase capacity to meet the target of training a thousand robots. The operational training will focus on the collection of significant amounts of industrial data. This data will serve as the foundation for developing more precise large-scale robotic models and will facilitate their integration into various sectors.

Since March 2024, the Shanghai Electric Research Institute has been rigorously collaborating with the State-Regional Center, focusing on the practical applications of humanoid robots, particularly in high-risk environments associated with nuclear energy. The initiative aims to replace traditionally labor-intensive and risky tasks with efficient and safer robotic solutions, thus providing a fresh impetus for the smart transformation of the energy sector.

The Vision for Deployment


On December 1, 2024, following extensive research and joint experiments, the first humanoid robot designed for nuclear energy applications was rolled out successfully. This robot incorporates several advanced features distinguishing it from other technologies currently available. It is configured to collect data and perform a range of training tasks effectively, including inspections and loading/unloading operations in industrial environments.

The successful implementation of this humanoid robot in nuclear applications represents the beginning of a deeper technical collaboration between Shanghai Electric and the State-Regional Center.
