The 38th Innovation-Promoting Advanced Technology Award Ceremony
On July 14, 2025, the prestigious 38th Innovation-Promoting Advanced Technology Award ceremony took place at the Meiji Memorial Hall in Tokyo's Moto-Akasaka, graced by the presence of Her Imperial Highness, Princess Akiko of Takamado. This event is organized by the Sankei Shimbun and is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Nippon Broadcasting System, and special cooperation from Akaliku, represented by RGS Information System Co., Ltd. The ceremony aimed to recognize and prize the remarkable research contributions of science and engineering students as well as young researchers in enterprises. RGSIS proudly participated as a sponsoring company, continuing its commitment to fostering innovation in technology education and research.
Award Winners
In the student category, the highest honor—the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award—was awarded to Yudai Yamazaki, a second-year doctoral student from Tokyo University of Science. Yamazaki's research focused on a groundbreaking ultra-compact sub-terahertz semiconductor radio for next-generation wireless devices.
The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, meanwhile, was presented to Jianquan Liu and his team from NEC Corporation for their influential work on the application of 'video recognition AI × LLM' in industrial sectors, showcasing the significant potential of AI in contemporary technology applications.
These achievements highlight the vital role young researchers play in advancing technological frontiers and the continuous collaboration between academia and industry.

About the Advanced Technology Award
Founded in 1986, the Advanced Technology Award aims to cultivate creativity and originality among engineering students while enhancing their research motivation. Following the 16th award cycle, the name was changed to the "Innovation-Promoting Advanced Technology Award" to align with national efforts toward establishing a 'Scientific and Technological Creative Nation.' This evolution signifies the importance of collaboration among government, academia, and industry in nurturing young technical experts.
The 38th iteration divided the submissions into two categories: the Student Division (including technical college students, university students, and graduate students) and the Working Adult Division (targeting young researchers affiliated with companies, universities, and research institutions). Among a multitude of submissions, rigorous reviews determined the award recipients, emphasizing the quality and impact of the presented innovations.
