Huntsman Cancer Institute's New Comprehensive Cancer Center in Vineyard

On April 8, 2025, the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah marked a significant milestone by breaking ground on its second Comprehensive Cancer Center in Vineyard, Utah. This new facility, strategically located in the heart of Utah County, aims to improve access to advanced cancer care and innovative research for thousands of patients in the region.

With Utah experiencing rapid population growth, the new center will play a pivotal role in expanding capacity for research, patient care, education, and training in cancer-related fields. Dr. Mary Beckerle, the CEO of Huntsman Cancer Institute, expressed pride in moving forward with this project which represents not only a physical building but a commitment to delivering healing, hope, and comprehensive cancer treatments closer to the patients who need them most.

The decision to build in Vineyard is driven by the desire to reduce travel times for patients from central and southern Utah, who previously faced long journeys to access care. Last year alone, HCI processed over 40,000 patient visits from Utah County and nearby areas, underlining the urgent need for improved services and facilities. With the new center, patients can expect access to multidisciplinary cancer clinics, radiation oncology, advanced imaging techniques, wellness programs, and newly established acute care clinics.

During the groundbreaking event, attended by over 450 community members, patients, and local representatives, significant emphasis was placed on the collaborative spirit embodied in this project. It was noted that the center is a result of partnerships among HCI, Utah Valley University, and Brigham Young University, thereby enhancing the breadth and quality of cancer care and research in the region.

The advanced cancer care being developed at this new site will be complemented by ongoing research efforts at HCI, known for its unique strengths in cancer studies. The vineyard location will facilitate additional clinical trials and innovations through partnerships with academic institutions, thereby harnessing the power of AI and data analytics in advancing cancer discovery and treatment methods.
