Upcoming Seminar on Maritime Decarbonization Trends



The National Research and Development Agency, the Maritime Technology Safety Institute, led by Director Koichi Hirata, is set to host the 25th Maritime Technology Safety Institute Seminar on January 23, 2024. This event, focusing on “Decarbonization in the Maritime Industry and the Latest Trends in GX,” will be conducted in a hybrid format, combining both in-person and online attendance. A lab tour is also planned for attendees after the seminar.

Key Highlights of the Seminar


The seminar will feature a keynote speech, two external presentations, and two research presentations, all available in both face-to-face and online formats. This setup ensures broader participation, allowing interested individuals to join the discussions and learn about the pivotal developments in the maritime sector.

Scheduled Program


The seminar schedule is as follows:
  • - Opening Remarks – 13:00 to 13:05 (Director Koichi Hirata)
  • - Keynote Speech – 13:05 to 13:15
  • - External Presentation 1 – 13:15 to 13:45
  • - External Presentation 2 – 13:45 to 14:15
  • - Research Presentation 1 – 14:15 to 14:35
  • - Research Presentation 2 – 14:35 to 14:55
  • - Closing Remarks – 14:55 to 15:00 (Supervising Director Toshifumi Fujiwara)

The in-person session is limited to 100 attendees, while the online version can accommodate up to 500 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Venue Details


The physical seminar will take place at the Mitaka City Public Hall, specifically in the multipurpose conference room on the third floor, located at 1-1 Nozaki, Mitaka City, Tokyo. For directions to the venue, visit Mitaka City Sports and Culture Access.

Lab Tour Information


Following the seminar, there will be a lab tour scheduled from 15:30 to 16:45. This event is limited to 45 participants on a first-come basis. The tour will include four key facilities: large combustion test facilities, large diesel engine experimental setups, a real sea recreation tank, and a deep-sea tank.

The lab tour will take place at the Maritime Technology Safety Institute, located at 6-38-1 Shin-Kawa, Mitaka City, Tokyo.
