4. About Enmeiin


Founded in the early Edo period in 1648 by a woman who served as a wet nurse for the later fourth shogun, Tokugawa Ietsuna, Enmeiin Temple was established to honor Shichimen-Daimeijin. It became the eternal prayer place for the Tokugawa shogunate following its successes in childbirth prayers for Shogun Iemitsu. Known as one of the oldest temples in Edo dedicated to the goddess, Enmeiin saw many visitors, especially noblewomen and court ladies who sought divine blessings.
