Aasi Siddique Proposes Major Overhaul for Cook County's Property Tax System



Aasi Siddique, a candidate for District 13 Commissioner in Cook County, is calling for a significant reform of the county's broken property tax system. This reform aims to address the longstanding issues of inefficiency and mismanagement that have plagued this crucial aspect of local governance.

The proposal features a comprehensive turnaround strategy that will unify the fragmented systems used by the offices of the Assessor, Clerk, and Treasurer. Currently, these offices operate using incompatible databases. This lack of cohesion has caused significant problems, including the freezing of $216 million in property tax funds that should have been distributed to local school districts. In addition, approximately $56 million in tax refunds owed to 25,000 property owners have been delayed due to software issues within the Integrated Property Tax System (IPTS).
