Alsana Launches Free Virtual Support Groups for Fire-Affected Individuals Struggling with Eating Disorders

New Initiative by Alsana: Free Virtual Support Groups for Wildfire-Affected Individuals

In the wake of the devastating wildfires that have swept through Los Angeles, Alsana, a recognized leader in mental health support and eating disorder treatment, has stepped forward to provide crucial assistance. Understanding the compounded emotional struggles that arise from such disasters, Alsana is offering free virtual support groups tailored for individuals facing eating disorders and those impacted by the fires.

The virtual sessions are facilitated by Alsana's licensed therapists, designed specifically to address the overwhelming emotional toll that these wildfires have had, especially for those already grappling with an eating disorder. Jessica Harris, the Chief Operating Officer at Alsana, emphasizes the urgent need for mental health interventions during these challenging times, stating, "The emotional toll of these fires can be overwhelming, particularly for individuals already struggling with an eating disorder. We are here to help in our own specialized way."

As a key resource, Alsana's support groups are structured to cater to a variety of stakeholders, including adults, alumni from their programs, and families of adolescents dealing with eating disorders. Each session provides a unique opportunity to connect with others facing similar challenges due to the crisis, allowing participants to share their experiences while receiving professional guidance.

In addition to individuals battling eating disorders, Alsana recognizes the importance of supporting mental health professionals who are also impacted by the wildfires. A dedicated group for treatment providers allows them to find solace and support among peers while they continue delivering vital mental health services to others in need.

Alsana's free virtual support groups will include sessions focused on the specific mental health needs that emerge during disasters, such as anxiety, trauma, and stress. Participants can choose to join one of four tailored groups:

1. Alsana Alumni Group: Open to those impacted by the fires, led by Jenn Berry, MA, LPC-S, the National Director of Family Programs.
2. Healthcare Professionals Impacted by the Fires: Led by Margot Rittenhouse, MS, LPCC, and Molly Binenfeld, focusing on community support.
3. Family and Caregivers of Adolescents: This group is for families of young individuals suffering with eating disorders and is led by Jenn Berry.
4. Adults Struggling with Eating Disorders: Support for individuals aged 18 and over, with a lead therapist to be announced.

These sessions aim not only to provide a safe space for individuals to express their feelings but also to foster a sense of community. Alsana will host these virtual gatherings every other Friday at noon PST, reinforcing the message that those suffering from eating disorders are not alone in their struggles and can find hope and healing through shared experiences.

Registration for these free groups is available online. Participants can access information and sign up through Alsana's support group webpage. For queries about the sessions or to register, individuals can contact Alsana directly at 866-375-1890.
