Wacaco Launches Prestina: A Game-Changing Manual Coffee Maker

Wacaco Company Limited, renowned for pushing the boundaries of portable coffee equipment, has unveiled its latest innovation: the Prestina. This patented manual immersion coffee brewer revolutionizes coffee making by transforming the very cup you drink from into a crucial part of the brewing process. No electricity, no paper filters—just simplicity and a rich coffee experience.

A New Way to Brew

The Prestina encourages coffee enthusiasts to enjoy their brew without the need for extensive equipment. Designed to utilize the user's own cup, it promotes an efficient setup where the vessel is both the container and the means by which the coffee is brewed. Users will find that the process is straightforward: simply add 15 grams of medium-ground coffee, pour 240 ml of water heated to around 90 °C, stir gently, let it steep for a minute, and press down with the cup until the coffee is filtered.

This one-minute immersion method results in a full-bodied coffee that boasts the depth typically associated with immersion brewing while providing a cleaner aftertaste than that offered by traditional French press methods. What sets Prestina apart is its stainless steel integrated filter, which retains the natural oils of the coffee, eliminating the need for paper filters or pods.

Compact and Practical Design

The complete kit includes six components: the brewer body, the filter holder, the cup, the lid, a measuring spoon, and a drip tray. Once assembled, the coffee maker and cup fit seamlessly together, creating a compact unit measuring just 134 x 85 x 85 mm and weighing a mere 254 grams. This tidy design makes it easy to store in a desk drawer, carry in a carry-on bag, or pack in a camping coffee kit.

Hugo Cailleton, co-founder and lead designer of Wacaco, explains the inspiration behind Prestina: "With Prestina, we wanted to boil down the manual coffee preparation process to its most essential form. The breakthrough came when we realized that the cup didn’t need to be separate from the brewing mechanism—it could be part of it. This allowed us to create something simpler, smaller, and easier to use, without compromising the intensity that people expect from immersion brews."

Prestina comes in three different colors: sage green, clay pink, and charcoal black. It is priced at an accessible $29.90 and can be purchased from Wacaco's official website, select online retail platforms, and via international retail partners. Additionally, Prestina will debut at the World of Coffee event in Brussels from June 25 to 27, showcasing its innovative features to coffee lovers from around the globe.
