Roche Appoints Dan Malarek as President and CEO of Roche Diagnostics North America

On July 20, 2026, Roche, a cornerstone in the global healthcare landscape, declared a significant leadership transition within its North American operations. Dan Malarek, the current CEO of Foundation Medicine Inc., has been appointed as the President and CEO of Roche Diagnostics North America. His official start date is set for August 1, 2026.

Malarek succeeds Brad Moore, who will retire at the end of this month after nearly a decade of dedicated service at Roche. Under Moore's leadership, Roche Diagnostics has seen considerable advancements and growth, and his contributions will certainly be missed.

In conjunction with Malarek's new role, Antonio Vergara has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Roche Diagnostics U.S., a newly established position that also begins on August 1, 2026. Vergara will directly report to Malarek and is tasked with overseeing the commercial strategy and operations across the U.S. business units.

Matt Sause, the Global CEO of Roche Diagnostics, expressed appreciation for Moore's leadership and contributions, wishing him well in his retirement. He remarked that Malarek is an exceptional leader with a visionary approach, comprehensive experience, and a proven track record to effectively drive the North American segment of Roche's operations. Sause is confident that Malarek and Vergara's collaboration will sustain and amplify Roche's mission to enhance patient care in North America.

Dan Malarek's journey with Roche began in 2007 when he entered through the Perspectives Management Development Program. Over the years, he has progressed through various leadership roles, demonstrating his ability to adapt and excel in the fast-evolving healthcare sector. In his time within the Diagnostics division, Malarek has undertaken significant responsibilities, including Head of Marketing and Business Development in Diabetes Care, as well as General Manager for Roche Diagnostics Norway. His journey culminated in leading Foundation Medicine Inc., where he successfully steered the company during a transformative period.

Meanwhile, Vera Grossmann, the current Chief Operating Officer at Foundation Medicine, will take on the interim CEO role effective August 1, 2026. A comprehensive search for a permanent successor for her role is already underway, indicating Roche's commitment to seamlessly transition leadership while maintaining its focus on innovation in diagnostics and clinical care.

Antonio Vergara, the new Chief Commercial Officer, brings three decades of experience in financial and commercial roles to the table. His journey at Roche began in 1996, and since then, he has held several pivotal positions, including the President and Head of Diagnostics for Latin America. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President overseeing the U.S. Core Lab and Near Patient Care business, providing him with an in-depth understanding of the U.S. market.

Roche's mission is to harness the synergy between advanced science and technology to combat health challenges that affect people globally. Founded in Basel, Switzerland, in 1896, Roche is involved in the development of transformative medicines and diagnostics that reach millions of patients across more than 150 countries. The company remains committed to addressing pressing healthcare issues ranging from oncology to infectious diseases.

With these leadership transitions, Roche appears poised to continue its trajectory of growth and innovation in North America's diagnostic market, ensuring that patient care is at the heart of its operations.
