Celebrating National Small Business Week: A Tribute to Our Entrepreneurs and SBDC

National Small Business Week 2025

This week, the nation turns its focus toward celebrating National Small Business Week, an annual event that underscores the significant role small businesses play in bolstering the American economy. Recognized from May 4 to 10, 2025, this initiative is led by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), which executes a myriad of events, including award ceremonies and a free virtual summit.

At the forefront of this year's recognition is the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Excellence and Innovation Center Award, which has been awarded to the Angelo State University Small Business Development Center (ASU SBDC). This award celebrates the center's achievements in promoting local economic development, job creation, and support for entrepreneurial ventures throughout the region.

Recognition of a Commitment to Growth

On May 4, 2025, the staff of the ASU SBDC was honored at an awards dinner held at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington, D.C. This recognition illuminates the center's dedication to empowering small businesses through exceptional counseling and training programs. Director Dezaray Kathlaine Johnson leads the center, which is hailed for providing unmatched support to budding entrepreneurs.

The ASU SBDC is known for its commitment to excellence, demonstrated through its successful initiatives like the San Angelo Business Plan Competition and the ASU BizPitch contest, which nurtures the entrepreneurial spirits of students. This active engagement with ASU’s Norris-Vincent College of Business plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation and business acumen among the university's students.
