Governor Mike Kehoe emphasized the importance of Google's investment, calling it a testament to Missouri's growing stature as a hub for innovation and technology. “Beyond the economic uplift and job creation, Google's efforts reflect a deep commitment to enhancing community welfare through grants, support to local businesses, and funding initiatives that promote sustainable growth,” stated Kehoe.

Their approach will directly empower thousands of residents with essential skills and ensure energy affordability across the region.

Enhancing Local Infrastructure and Energy Affordability

As part of its commitment to sustainable development, Google has pledged to cover all power costs used by their operations, contributing over one gigawatt (GW) of new generation power capacity to the state. This collaboration with Ameren aims to bolster the energy grid while reinforcing local ratepayers’ interests.

Furthermore, Google is introducing a $20 million Energy Impact Fund targeting energy affordability programs. This fund will provide essential support to organizations focused on decreasing household energy bills, especially in Montgomery and surrounding counties.

One of the beneficiaries of this initiative is the North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC), which is focused on enhancing energy efficiency in local homes through vital repairs and upgrades. Utilizing advanced air-cooling technology, the data center will significantly reduce water consumption in its operations. The establishment of Google's data center is expected to catalyze job creation, with every direct job yielding nearly nine additional local jobs in areas like construction and maintenance. To enhance workforce development, Google is partnering with the Construction Laborers and Contractors Joint Training Fund, enabling the training of over 2,300 construction workers in the region over the next two years.
