ITRI Achieves Recognition as a Leading Global Innovator in 2025
The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has once again proven its prowess in innovation by securing a spot as a Top 100 Global Innovator for 2025, as recognized by Clarivate. This marks a significant milestone as it is the ninth time ITRI has earned this prestigious title, and the eighth year in a row to receive this honor, placing it amongst just three global research organizations on the list. Notably, ITRI is the only organization from Asia to have achieved this level of recognition, sharing the accolade with renowned international innovators like Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, and Qualcomm.
Gordon Samson, President of Intellectual Property at Clarivate, highlighted the importance of this recognition, stating, "We congratulate ITRI for being named a Top 100 Global Innovator for the ninth time and eight consecutive years. The competition is more global than ever before, making this achievement remarkable."
To achieve this recognition, Clarivate evaluates various criteria including the uniqueness of technology, its global impact, and the overall footprint of the organization. ITRI's consistent focus on innovation and cross-disciplinary research and development has been paramount to its success. As named by ITRI President Edwin Liu, innovation is critical for national competitiveness, especially in the face of rising geopolitical risks. He emphasized securing key technologies and fostering industrial development through innovation.
ITRI’s proactive approach involves supporting startups and aiding companies in monetizing their intangible assets through initiatives like the establishment of the Intellectual Property Innovation Corporation (IPIC). The IP Bank, part of this initiative, assists businesses in acquiring necessary patents which bolster their international competitiveness. This, combined with ITRI's 2035 Technology Strategy and Roadmap, seeks to align research priorities toward pivotal sectors such as semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
Moreover, the institute's roadmap aims to solidify Taiwan's position in the global technology landscape by nurturing innovation conducive to sustainable growth. This strategy is not just about producing cutting-edge technologies; it emphasizes the necessity of fostering an environment where technological advancements translate into tangible benefits for society.
ITRI has a rich legacy of excelling in technology research and development. Founded in 1973, it has been integral to transforming Taiwan’s industries from labor-centric operations to innovation-centric enterprises. Over the years, ITRI has successfully nurtured significant technology startups, including major players like UMC and TSMC. Its global footprint extends beyond Taiwan, with branch offices established in the U.S., Germany, Japan, and Thailand to foster international collaboration and enhance its research capabilities across borders.
As ITRI continues to drive innovation, its commitment to enhancing Taiwan's technological research and development value remains steadfast. This recent accolade not only showcases ITRI's substantial contributions to the global innovation landscape but also reaffirms its mission to leverage research outcomes to accelerate industrial transformation.
