The Stage Production of 'Mori no Asagao 2025'

'Mori no Asagao 2025', which will open its curtains at the Nakameguro Kinkero Theater in Tokyo. From
November 12 to 16, 2025, this adaptation tells the poignant story of a young prison officer and a death row inmate.

About the Original Work
The production is based on the acclaimed manga by
Mamora Goda, which won the Grand Prize in the Manga Category at the
2007 Agency for Cultural Affairs Media Arts Festival. It explores the complex themes surrounding the death penalty, presenting a human drama that has resonated strongly with readers since its original publication. The story was previously adapted into a live-action drama by TV Tokyo in 2010 and first made its stage debut in 2015, captivating audiences with its depth and emotionality.
Synopsis
Set against the backdrop of a prison, the narrative follows
Naoki Oikawa, a novice prison officer grappling with the moral implications of the death penalty as he interacts with the inmates. His life takes a dramatic turn when
Mitsu Watase, an inmate who shares the same age and who Oikawa admired during his childhood, is incarcerated. Empathizing with Mitsu's concealed burdens, Oikawa finds himself forming a forbidden friendship that challenges his beliefs.
Cast and Creative Team
The dual lead roles are performed by prominent actors:
Yuki Iwasa, known for roles in productions such as
'Utaemaki Hikaru no Go' and
'ALIVE STAGE,' and
Atsushi Shiramata, widely recognized for his work in
'Kamen Rider Gaim' and

Chihou Takai, who has appeared in
