Dino Lumina: The World’s Premier Dinosaur Park with Groundbreaking Technology
Dive into Dino Lumina: A Dinosaur Wonderland
The realm of immersive entertainment is taking a giant leap forward with the introduction of Dino Lumina, the world's first park designed to showcase dinosaurs using spectacular large-scale projections. Created by the renowned 3D projection mapping leader, PaintScaping, this enchanting experience is currently being held at the prestigious Dallas Zoo until January 6, 2025.
A Unique Experience
As visitors stroll through the lush setups of the zoo, they are not just observers but participants in a dynamic natural scene where towering dinosaurs interact as if they were part of the living, breathing world. Unlike traditional animatronics, these projections mimic the lifelike movements of dinosaurs running, battling, and hunting in real-time, providing an experience akin to stepping into a prehistoric world.
Philippe Bergeron, CEO of PaintScaping, recognized for his work in cutting-edge CGI, has pushed the envelope further by joining forces with Daniel Langlois, the visionary behind SoftImage—the software that brought the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park to the big screen.
"Daniel was instrumental in creating one of the most memorable scenes in movie history, but this time, we offer a chance for audiences to witness them in real life," says Bergeron. The experience is not just visually stunning; it’s also an auditory masterpiece. The Academy Award-winning soundscape team, including Sylvain Bellemare, has collaborated to create an immersive 3D sound environment that complements the breathtaking visuals.
The Visual and Auditory Spectacle
With the help of 12 high-powered Christie projectors, the park captures a breathtaking combination of CGI and realistic audio. Picture this: as you navigate the pathways, you can hear raptors squawking during a fight on your left while overhead, pterodactyls glide majestically through the air. A few meters away, a T-Rex stands silently, while a brachiosaurus guides her young through their feeding sessions.
Partnership with the Dallas Zoo
For many years, PaintScaping has partnered with the Dallas Zoo to create enchanting experiences, notably for their annual Dallas Zoo Lights event. This year’s production marks the most ambitious project between the two, highlighting a shared vision of innovation and educational engagement. Sean Greene, COO of the Dallas Zoo, expressed, “This year, we can't wait for guests to experience Dino Lumina and the incredible technology that has brought this spectacular dinosaur encounter to life."
