A Nostalgic Experience with Sanrio: The Strawberry House Opens
Sanrio, a beloved name in character-based entertainment, is all set to delight fans once again with a limited-time exhibit—the
Strawberry House. This whimsical display will debut on
March 6, 2026, and run through
July 12, 2026, at
Diver City Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba, Tokyo. The attraction pays homage to the original Strawberry House that captivated fans from
1983 to 2011 in Den-en-chofu, which featured the charming world of Sanrio characters, notably
Bottanose, in a delightful strawberry-shaped structure.
The original Strawberry House was beloved for its unique three-story design, complete with a merchandise shop on the first floor, a restaurant and crepe parlor on the second, and an event space on the third. Over the years, it became a key site for Sanrio enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the enchanting universe of their favorite characters.
This new iteration of the Strawberry House was inspired by the
50th anniversary of the Monthly Strawberry Newspaper, leading Sanrio to recreate a space that encapsulates the company’s foundational philosophy: “
Everyone gets along.” Although smaller than its predecessor, it aims to evoke nostalgia for returning fans while introducing a new generation to the magical world of Sanrio.
Exhibition Highlights
Upon entering the Strawberry House, visitors will be greeted by
exhibitions that trace the history of the Monthly Strawberry Newspaper. Covering the years of publication—from its inception to the present—this exhibit will showcase various designs and special features that have marked its evolution. This nostalgic journey not only reflects the changing times but also offers an insightful retrospective on how the newspaper created cherished memories for many.
Another highlight is the recreated
room of the Strawberry King and Angels. This space, inspired by the ongoing 'Messages from the Strawberry King' series featured in the Strawberry Newspaper, invites visitors to explore the enchanting atmosphere of Strawberry Kingdom and snap unforgettable photos.
The space will also include engaging visual displays that encapsulate the importance of getting along and sharing happiness, reinforcing Sanrio's ethos. Through videos that delight audiences of all ages, this exhibit makes the company’s core message resonate through the ages.
On the opening day,
March 6, fans can look forward to special appearances by the
Strawberry King, including a celebratory ceremony and a high-five event, bringing fans closer to their beloved characters.
Special Merchandise Release
In honor of the occasion, exclusive merchandise will be available, including adorable mascot holders in various designs featuring Sanrio characters dressed as the Strawberry King, keychains inspired by the Strawberry House, and other cute items for daily use. Themed menus, like the
Strawberry House soft serve ice cream, will also be offered at the
HELLO KITTY’s Kitchen located nearby.
In addition to the merchandise and food, engaging activities such as a
stamp rally and specially designed photo spots will encourage interaction and make this a delightful experience for families and fans of all ages.
The History of Strawberry House
Recalling the legacy of the original Strawberry House undoubtedly brings warmth to hearts. The structure initially opened in
December 1983, designed to be a charming space where kids could gather and make memories. Featuring a shop on the first floor, an enchanting parlor with strawberry-themed decor on the second, and an event space on the third, it was where the dream world of
Bottanose came to life for fans.
Despite its eventual closure in 2011 due to aging infrastructure, the Strawberry House left an indelible mark on many who cherished the adventures within its walls. By reopening this nostalgic venue, Sanrio hopes to rekindle those special moments, bringing a new, magical experience to fans everywhere.
