On May 26, 2025, the grand finale of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 took place in Shenzhen, China. This year marked the ninth edition of the competition, which attracted a record participation of over 210,000 students and educators from more than 2,000 colleges and universities across 100 countries and regions. After a series of national and regional rounds, the final stage saw 179 teams from 48 countries compete for the prestigious awards.

A Showcase of Skills and Talent

This year's competition featured intense contests across three primary tracks: practical skills, innovation, and programming. Ultimately, 18 exceptional teams from nine countries bagged the highest honors, proving their mettle in front of expert judges and eager spectators. The teams hailed from diverse nations including China, Algeria, Brazil, the Philippines, Morocco, Nigeria, Serbia, Tanzania, and Singapore.

Beyond technical achievements, the competition also celebrated contributions that make a difference beyond coding and technical prowess. The Women in Tech Award was given to four women-led teams from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya to promote gender diversity in technology. The Green Development Award was conferred to a team from Ghana for their focus on sustainability. Additionally, the Most Valuable Instructor award recognized 18 educators from ten countries — including China, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Hungary, and Turkey — for their outstanding contributions to ICT education.

Ritchie Peng, Director of ICT Strategy Business Development at Huawei, emphasized during his opening speech that competitions like this are crucial for achieving educational goals and promoting innovation. He remarked, “By continuously enhancing our competition formats, we aim to align these contests with our vision for 'Intelligent World 2030' and encourage students to master cloud computing, big data, and AI technologies for societal progress."

As the digital transformation accelerates worldwide, the demand for skilled professionals in AI, big data, and cybersecurity continues to grow. However, the talent gap in these critical fields is becoming increasingly apparent.

To address this challenge, the Huawei ICT Competition encompasses various initiatives, including practical skills, innovation, and programming challenges, along with cooperative educational programs and specialized curricula, which are aimed at equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly intelligent and digital landscape.

This year, Huawei also held the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit during the competition, where experts discussed the pivotal role of AI in smart education. Furthermore, the official unveiling of the Huawei ICT Academy Intelligent Platform signifies a step forward in simplifying and enhancing the educational experience for both instructors and students, catering to the demands of digital education.
