Yayoko Sugiyama, the creator behind the
Gashi Maru brand, has consistently sought to capture the ephemeral beauty of confections, expressing the unique experiences that come with each sweet treat. Her vision emphasizes the act of eating as a memorable experience, blending artistry with taste. Sugiyama has spent years perfecting her craft, sourcing seasonal ingredients and incorporating wild plants to create a diverse range of sweets from fresh varieties to dried, ensuring a sensory journey unlike any other.
During the event, attendees will be treated to one of the featured confections, the
'Nest' Kinton, which is crafted with fresh egg yolks and other ingredients. Guests with food allergies are encouraged to reach out for more information prior to the event.
The book,
'Gashi Maru no Kashi', highlights an impressive milestone of
10 years since the launch of the Gashi Maru brand and showcases
30 delectable sweets. It consists of stunning photography by
Mitsuru Kaita and insightful commentary from Sugiyama herself, providing a deep dive into her creative philosophy. This beautifully bound book also includes essays and innovations that capture the essence of her work and provides a glimpse into her unwavering dedication to her craft.
As part of the Kyoto Era Arts University community, Nakayama Haruna, one of the speakers, is dedicated to exploring the intersections of art and culture through service design.
