Huawei Launches Innovative Energy Solutions at Global Summit, Merging AI with Power Systems
Huawei Connect 2026: A New Era for Energy
On September 24, 2026, Huawei hosted the Global Electric Power Summit during the HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 event, drawing over 600 participants from various sectors of the energy industry. The summit was centered around the theme "AI × Energy: Unlocking a New Power System," highlighting the critical intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and renewable energy.
The global energy sector is undergoing significant transformations aimed at enhancing efficiency and sustainability. Distributed energy sources are becoming paramount for reducing dependence on traditional energy models, improving grid resilience, and ensuring universal electricity access. Philippe Adam, Secretary General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), emphasized during his address that the energy industry is experiencing a profound shift driven by energy transformation, AI data centers (AIDC), and digitalization.
In the face of numerous challenges—such as the transition to renewable energy, the imperative for intelligent infrastructure, and the struggle for 700 million people worldwide who lack electricity—AI emerges as an essential tool for revitalizing the century-old energy framework. Huawei predicts that low-voltage management, often a complicated aspect of electrical networks, will become a vital area for AI applications. Effective management at low voltage levels will require both systematic approaches and transparent operations. This is underpinned by six essential capabilities: observability, measurability, controllability, adaptability, tradability, and traceability, all crucial for long-term sustainability in energy management.
Huawei’s Digital Power Business Unit General Manager, David Sun stated, “The essence of transparency in low voltage lies in rapid data processing, enhanced quality, and cost efficiency. To unlock the new energy system, the industry must progress on three key fronts: focusing on digital talent, ensuring robust digital infrastructure, and establishing a regulated asset base (RAB).”
Six Global Showcase Projects
The summit spotlighted six groundbreaking global showcase projects that underscore the success of the digital and intelligent transformation of energy systems. Among these projects are:
1. Digital and Smart Grid in Brazil – Showcasing innovations by CEMIG in delivering a more responsive energy grid.
2. Energy Distribution and Microgrid Synergy in Guangzhou, China – A demonstration zone focusing on integrating cutting-edge distribution strategies.
3. Smart Diagnostics and Operations in Shaoshan, Hunan, China – Highlighting advancements in managing new distribution networks.
4. Energy Supply and Consumption Intelligence in Jiangxi, China – Showcasing a model for intelligent energy use.
5. ±800 kV UHV Converter Station in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China – A project representing high-voltage advancements in energy transmission.
6. Energy Communication Network in Liaoning, China – Fostering efficient communication across energy systems.
These initiatives not only exemplify innovative practices in various energy scenarios but also encompass the entire spectrum of energy activities typical of the smart era. The success of these projects indicates a promising direction for the future of energy management and technology.
Looking ahead, Huawei remains committed to leveraging its strengths in information and communication technologies (ICT). Utilizing a three-tier framework of metrics, architectures, and technologies, the company seeks to collaborate with global energy enterprises, standardization organizations, and ecosystem partners to drive innovation. This collective effort aims to support the modernization of the energy sector and foster overall ecosystem prosperity.
The successful integration of AI and energy solutions showcased at the summit marks a pivotal step towards achieving a more sustainable and intelligent global energy framework. As the industry navigates through transformation, Huawei's initiatives stand as a testament to the future possibilities within electric power management, reflecting a robust vision for cleaner and more efficient energy utilization worldwide.
