BLUETTI and UN-Habitat Strengthen Clean Energy Access in Africa

In a remarkable move towards sustainable development, global clean energy leader BLUETTI has solidified its partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). This collaboration seeks to accelerate access to clean energy across various regions in Africa, particularly in communities that are underserved.

The foundation of this enhanced partnership rests on the successful ongoing Lighting An African Family (LAAF) initiative, which has been operational in Kenya for four years. This impactful program has so far aided 500 families and over 2,000 individuals in urban and peri-urban areas. Notably, many beneficiaries hail from women-led households, showcasing the program's commitment to gender inclusivity.

BLUETTI played a significant role at the 2025 Devolution Conference held from August 12 to 15. This important Kenyan policy forum focused on how clean and affordable energy solutions can bolster housing, urban resilience, and innovative urban solutions. The discussions reiterated the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental bodies, to underscore that clean energy is pivotal for a sustainable future for all.

Through this partnership, communities in two diverse urban settings—Muhoroni, a rapidly developing peri-urban area in Kisumu County, along with EX-Grogon and Mathare, informal settlements located in central Nairobi—are set to significantly benefit. BLUETTI generously donated 500 E60 Solar Lighting and Storage kits to these communities, positively affecting over 2,000 residents. The initiative is projected to reduce carbon emissions by a staggering 337.5 tons over the next five years, while also enhancing urban resilience and promoting environmental consciousness.

Mr. Oumar Sylla, Director of the Regional Office for Africa at UN-Habitat, remarked upon the importance of this collaboration, emphasizing how the partnership brings renewable energy solutions to vulnerable families in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly focusing on households led by women. The initiative serves as a model for private sector collaboration with the UN, driving forward the Sustainable Development Goals.
