SMM 2026, which takes place in Hamburg, Germany, MAHLE announced its cutting-edge propulsion solutions designed for the maritime industry. The company aims to enhance efficiency and reliability in maritime technology while expanding its global presence in this vital sector. By showcasing components for ship propulsion systems that have been developed and manufactured over several decades, MAHLE positioned itself as a leader in the market for high-speed ferry pistons.
One of the standout features of MAHLE's exhibit was the
Power Cell Unit (PCU), a crucial component used in the power systems of ferries, workboats, and large vessels. This innovative piece of technology, comprised of pistons, piston pins, piston rings, and cylinder liners, efficiently transforms fuel into electrical energy. By ensuring that all components interact optimally, the PCU delivers exceptional functionality and high efficiency, reinforcing MAHLE's reputation as a trusted partner among major engine manufacturers globally.
The
large-diameter piston, also highlighted at the MAHLE booth, measures an impressive 65 cm in height, 51 cm in diameter, and weighs approximately 300 kg. As one of the key components that make up the PCU, this piston is the largest in MAHLE's marine production line. As the world’s leading piston manufacturer, MAHLE offers a diverse range of solutions, including aluminum pistons produced through casting and electron beam welding, as well as composite pistons that incorporate various materials such as aluminum, cast iron, and steel for the skirt area.
