PowerX and Mercedes-Benz Unveil First High-Power EV Charging Hub in Japan

PowerX and Mercedes-Benz Unite for EV Infrastructure

On July 8, 2023, PowerX Inc., headquartered in Tamano City, Okayama, inaugurated the first high-power EV charging station, named the "Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub Chiba Park". This development is part of a strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Japan LLC (MBHPCJ), aimed at expanding the electric vehicle (EV) charging network across Japan.

The newly established charging hub is located within the parking area of Chiba Park in Chiba City, Central Chiba Prefecture. It offers a public charging service that can deliver up to 150 kW, catering to all EV owners. In addition to high-speed charging, visitors to the park can enjoy amenities such as a café and a sports gym, making charging time both convenient and enjoyable.

The charging infrastructure incorporates PowerX's advanced super-fast EV charging system, the "Hypercharger," which features a dual-port configuration. Additionally, a first-of-its-kind dispenser unit designed specifically for Mercedes-Benz vehicles has been introduced, equipped with a large touch-screen display for enhanced usability.

At the Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub, a pay-as-you-go billing system based on electricity consumption will be implemented. Owners of Mercedes-Benz EV models can authenticate and pay through the "MB.CHARGE Public" service, while owners of other brands can utilize their PowerX app for access and payment at all charging hubs.

PowerX and MBHPCJ plan to expand their charging infrastructure further with additional hubs, including the upcoming opening of “Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub Kashiwa Shonan” and “Mercedes-Benz Charging Hub Komazawa.” PowerX will oversee everything from site selection to station operation, supporting Mercedes-Benz's EV strategy in Japan.
