Telkomsel Expands 5G Network in Jakarta

The company has recently expanded its 5G network, known as Hyper 5G, throughout the Jakarta metropolitan area, also known as Jabodetabek. This initiative is launched just in time for the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year festivities, aiming to ensure that the community enjoys exceptional digital experiences during these celebratory moments.
The Hyper 5G coverage includes vital transport corridors within Jakarta, from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, and from the vibrant areas of Pantai Indah Kapuk to key business and government centers like Pondok Indah and the National Monument. Telkomsel has ambitious plans to systematically and strategically increase the coverage of its network across other significant locations in Indonesia in the near future.
With internet speeds up to four times faster than 4G and enhanced reliability, the Hyper 5G technology supports a higher number of device connections and significantly reduces latency. Since its commercial launch in 2021, Telkomsel's Hyper 5G has grown to become the most extensive and advanced network in Indonesia, with over 1,400 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) spread across 56 cities and districts.
Indra Mardiatna, Telkomsel's Chief Technology Officer, highlighted that Jakarta's status as an economic hub with a high penetration of 5G smartphones and an increased demand for high-speed data makes this expansion crucial. Enhancing Connectivity with Hyper AI
In accordance with its 5G expansion, Telkomsel is integrating a comprehensive Hyper AI approach based on artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance service efficiency and quality. This technology allows for rapid responses to network disruptions and enables automated network management through a self-sufficient network structure. Indra emphasized, "With Hyper AI, Telkomsel delivers optimal service quality in various scenarios, ensuring the best customer experience at all times, even during busy holiday periods."
The low latency of Hyper 5G supports the Hyper AI approach by facilitating the implementation of AI virtual assistance services for Telkomsel customers. The internal virtual assistant (B2C) Veronika, along with the virtual account manager (B2B) Ted, work in tandem with the AI operating center to provide quick and effective responses to customer needs, resulting in innovative and high-quality service experiences in the age of 5G.
Preparing for Increased Data Traffic During Holidays
During festive periods, Telkomsel anticipates a significant rise in data traffic, estimating a 14.8% increase with total expected workloads reaching 1,981 petabytes. To ensure customer convenience in accessing digital services, the company has optimized its 4G/LTE and 5G network infrastructure, conducting comprehensive network tests along key routes and strategic locations.
