Envision Energy Launches the 50MW Mannar Wind Power Project

Envision Energy, a renowned global leader in green technology, has recently embarked on an important venture to support Sri Lanka's clean energy transition. The groundbreaking ceremony for the 50MW Mannar Wind Power Project took place in the northern region of Mannar, with prominent attendance from the Honourable President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake. This ambitious project plays a strategic role in advancing the country’s renewable energy targets.

The Mannar Wind Power Project is developed and funded by HayWind One Limited, a subsidiary of Hayleys PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s leading conglomerates. Envision Energy is contributing to this significant project by supplying 10 EN-156/5.0MW wind turbines, which will collectively provide an installed capacity of 50MW. This facility is expected to generate approximately 207 million kWh of clean electricity annually, harnessing the region's abundant wind resources.

Designed specifically to optimize the area's strengths, the turbines have a hub height of 110 meters, which will achieve higher energy output and improved economic feasibility. This initiative also marks Envision Energy's initial utility-scale wind turbine order in Sri Lanka, set to be operational by March 2027. It signifies a critical milestone as Envision expands its presence in South Asia’s renewable energy landscape.

To effectively tackle the coastal climate characterized by high salinity and humidity, Envision has implemented a customized anti-corrosion solution for the turbines, ensuring long-term stability and reliability. Furthermore, as part of its commitment to the project, Envision will provide comprehensive operational and maintenance services for the turbines over their anticipated 20-year lifespan, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

Winston Xu, General Manager of Southeast Region at Envision Energy, emphasized the strategic importance of Sri Lanka in South Asia's energy revolution. He remarked, "This project represents a significant advancement in the nation's renewable energy journey and Envision Energy's ongoing expansion in the region. We are dedicated to integrating proven wind technologies with customized solutions for complex coastal environments, thereby enhancing both energy output and reliability for Sri Lanka's national grid and communities."

Echoing this sentiment, Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director of Hayleys Fentons Limited, highlighted the significance of bringing Envision's advanced technology to Sri Lanka. Roshane Perera, Director and CEO of Hayleys Solar, also expressed pride in the local workforce’s ability to deliver on such a high-stakes project. We have engaged our most skilled engineers and project managers to ensure the Mannar infrastructure meets peak performance standards.”
