Ornellaia Unveils the 2022 Vintage

The 2022 grape harvest emerged as the driest in the last four years, with minimal rainfall recorded from February to June. The season also saw sweltering heat between May and September. This unique combination of drought and subsequent rainfall contributed to smaller grape yields, but those grapes were ultimately more concentrated and imbued with richer flavors.

Marco Balsimelli, the Technical Director at Ornellaia, noted that the standout feature of this vintage is its exceptional concentration and character. He emphasized, "All of the positive attributes of the sun are felt alongside a convincing freshness. The conditions were interpreted best by the Petit Verdot, which features in a slightly higher percentage in this year's blend."
