BancFirst Corporation Reports Strong Earnings for Third Quarter of 2026

BancFirst Corporation (NASDAQ GS: BANF) has unveiled its financial results for the third quarter of 2026, showcasing a remarkable net income of $67.3 million. This figure translates into a net income of $1.97 per diluted share, marking an increase compared to $62.7 million, or $1.85 per diluted share, reported during the same quarter in the previous year, 2025.

The company has notably improved its net interest income, registering $136.0 million for the quarter that ended on September 30, 2026. This is a considerable jump from $125.6 million for the same period in 2025. The enhancement in net interest income is primarily attributed to a higher loan volume and overall growth in earning assets. As a result, the net interest margin has also improved slightly, rising to 3.85% in the latest quarter from 3.79% in the same period last year.

In addressing credit losses, BancFirst set aside a provision of $3.1 million for the current quarter, a decrease from $4.4 million in the previous year’s third quarter. This indicates an improvement in the bank's ability to manage credit risks.

Moreover, noninterest income for the quarter amounted to $51.4 million, compared to $49.9 million for the same quarter in 2025. The increase can be linked to higher service charges on deposits and an uptick in treasury income, signifying a positive trajectory in the bank’s fee-based income generation.

On the other hand, the company's noninterest expenses rose to $98.2 million for Q3 2026, compared to $92.1 million in Q3 2025. This increase was largely due to a rise in salaries and employee benefits, which grew by $4.1 million as the company continues to invest in its talent and human resources to support its growth.

As of September 30, 2026, BancFirst Corporation's total assets reached $15.0 billion, representing an increase of $182.3 million since December 31, 2025. Loans also saw a healthy growth of $187.9 million, bringing the total to $8.7 billion. Deposits were reported at $12.7 billion, indicating a slight gain of $29.3 million from the end of 2025. However, sweep accounts settling at $4.7 billion reflected a decline of $282.5 million since the previous year-end.

The company's stockholders' equity as of the end of Q3 2026 stood at $2.0 billion, which is an increase of $142.9 million from the end of 2025. This growth in equity highlights BancFirst's solid capital position and ability to generate shareholder value.

In terms of the asset quality metrics, nonaccrual loans represented 0.87% of total loans at the end of Q3 2026, up from 0.72% at the end of 2025. Total nonaccrual loans reached $75.6 million at the end of the third quarter, with one commercial loan being the prime contributor to this figure. Meanwhile, the allowance for credit losses as a percentage of total loans was reported at 1.23%, showing nominal change from 1.22% at the end of last year.

The bank saw net charge-offs amounting to $4.0 million for the quarter, a notable increase from $1.7 million during the same quarter last year. Of the total charge-offs, $1.8 million was related to purchased credit deteriorated loans, with expectations for performance aligning with past assessments post-acquisition.

CEO David Harlow of BancFirst Corporation expressed optimism regarding the strong earnings driven by growth in earning assets, consistent margins, and growth in non-interest income, asserting that planned expenses remained on track. Harlow emphasized that capital levels continue to be robust while the allowance for credit losses remains adequate to manage potential future economic challenges. He noted the stability in asset quality metrics and charge-offs as being within historical ranges.

Looking ahead, BancFirst anticipates that the prevailing environment of higher interest rates may present challenges to future economic activity, while also confirming that their planned acquisition of Spirit Bank, based in Tulsa, is progressing as scheduled for closure in October.
