Oji Logistics and T2 Join Forces for Autonomous Trucking

In a groundbreaking development for the logistics sector, Oji Logistics Co., Ltd., based in Chuo, Tokyo, has partnered with T2, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Starting July 27, 2026, this collaboration will introduce regular commercial operations of autonomous trucks transporting paper products between Kanto and Kansai regions using a portion of the expressway.

As Oji Logistics navigates increasing logistics demands and the challenge of driver shortages—exacerbated by issues such as the 2024 Problem—the company is proactively seeking solutions through logistic digital transformation. The goal is to enhance logistics infrastructure, improve efficiency, and alleviate driver workload.

The partnership means both companies will aim to initiate trunk transportation using Level 4 autonomous trucks by the fiscal year 2027. In preparation, they have launched a trial using Level 2 autonomous trucks to test the transport of paper products. This pilot project began in October 2025 and will conclude with four successful trials by May 2026. The results from these demonstrations have confirmed the safety and reliability of autonomous trucking, leading to a decision to transition into regular commercial operations by T2.

The upcoming commercial routes will extend approximately 510 kilometers, running between Oji Logistics' Ariake branch in Koto, Tokyo, and its Anjigawa branch in Osaka city. The journey includes about 420 kilometers of road designated for Level 2 autonomous driving, specifically covering critical sections of the Tōmei Expressway and Keiji Bypass.

This collaboration will enable Oji Logistics to fully incorporate T2's autonomous trucking capabilities and explore participation in future trunk transport services with Level 4 autonomous trucks.

As the industry moves toward greater automation, both companies are committed to ensuring that innovations improve the quality and safety of logistics operations, meeting the evolving demands of the market. This venture into autonomous transport not only exemplifies a technological leap but also addresses pressing logistical challenges that the sector faces today.
