From Prague to Osaka: The Historic Journey to the World Expo

In a bold and historical venture, seven vehicles featuring a Czechoslovak crew began their long journey from Prague, with Osaka, Japan being their destination for the World Exhibition. Dubbed the 'ROBOT Prague – Osaka Expedition', this journey pays homage to the historical SAKURA Expedition of 1970, celebrating Czechoslovak friendship and technical ingenuity while embracing the joy of travel. The expedition's first stop was among the stunning sites of Bratislava.

This expedition is not merely a commute but a quest to cover 16,000 kilometers in vintage vehicles, underscoring a spirit of adventure and a desire to showcase the Czechoslovak prowess. Kicking off with a ceremonial farewell from Czech President Petr Pavel, the teams were then welcomed at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, where the occasion was graced with the presence of President Peter Pellegrini. Addressing the crew, Peter Vodráška, head of the Slovak President's office, expressed his honor in hosting the event, underlining the historical camaraderie between Czechoslovakia and Slovakia. He remarked on the significance of the project, which stands as a symbol of cooperation between their nations, and drew attention to the support received from ambassadors of the countries along the expedition route.

As part of the festivities in Bratislava, crew members presented a special mascot named KINJI to accompany them on the journey. KINJI represents the spirit of the Slovak exhibition at Expo 2025 and is seen as a token of goodwill on their quest to share the rich heritage of both nations at the World Expo in Osaka.

The anticipation leading up to their arrival on July 20, 2025, in Japan is palpable among the team members. They are set to cover daunting miles, navigating through diverse landscapes and cultures, as they bring their message of friendship and collective endeavors. Michaela Bočkayová, director of the Slovak exhibition for Expo 2025, highlighted how proud she feels to welcome the expedition's crews in Japan, celebrating their effort in fostering relations, while also sharing cultural treasures from Slovakia.

The inspiration of the expedition harks back to the historic roots when Czechoslovakia participated in international exhibitions that projected national identity and technical innovation. With the world becoming interconnected and global travels becoming more significant, this journey from Prague to Osaka is a modern tale of reuniting historical ties while forming new relationships. Each destination adds its thread to a broader narrative of international friendship and technical merits that these vehicles exemplify.

Slovakia Travel, a national organization for tourism promotion in Slovakia, plays a pivotal role in this expedition, hoping to spotlight the rich cultural landscape of the country while emphasizing the importance of tourism steadiness by fostering links with other nations. As they roll out towards their mission, their project encapsulates the beauty of exploration and the essence of national partnership, destined to be celebrated at a global event designed to honor advancements in various fields.

This journey's outcomes are anticipated to resonate much beyond their trek, promoting dialogues on cultural exchange and heralding a new era of cross-nation friendships. As the expedition unfolds, it promises to be an adventurous tale laden with memories, ongoing fellowship, and the bittersweet realization that even through the distance, camaraderie can converge across borders, creating an indelible mark on the global tapestry of exploration.
