Heritage Community of Kalamazoo's New Luxury Villas in Texas Township: A Modern Retirement Oasis
Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Expands with New Luxury Development
In a significant move towards enhancing its offerings for senior citizens, the Heritage Community of Kalamazoo has made a noteworthy investment in Texas Township. The organization recently finalized the purchase of 13.35 acres for a whopping $1.2 million, setting the stage for an exciting new active adult community named The Halstead.
The Halstead: A New Era in Senior Living
This innovative development aims to cater specifically to adults aged 55 and older, embodying a fresh approach to independent living. Designed to combine the convenience of apartment-style residences with the spaciousness of townhomes, The Halstead promises to deliver a hybrid lifestyle for its residents.
The first phase of this ambitious project will see the introduction of 60 hybrid villa homes, with the potential to expand up to 105 units in the future. These homes will not only boast modern aesthetics but also facilitate a maintenance-free lifestyle, allowing seniors to live actively and comfortably.
Architectural Features and Amenities
For those interested in upscale living arrangements, the villas at The Halstead will be corner units designed with an open-concept layout. Potential residents can expect to choose from two-bedroom or two-bedroom-plus-den floor plans, each ranging from 1,400 to 2,200 square feet. The villas will be tailored to illuminate natural light and include high-end kitchens, energy-efficient appliances, and luxurious finishes—everything one could desire in a modern home.
As Julie Deppner, the CEO of Heritage Community, described, “This marks the start of a meaningful new chapter for Heritage. Since 1945, we’ve evolved our existing campus, but this is our first time introducing an entirely new satellite community.” The focus is on a forward-thinking approach that aligns with the evolving needs of today’s active seniors.
Priority Program for Future Residents
Launching on August 20, a priority program is set to give potential residents early access to floor plans and choice locations for their new homes. Those who place a refundable deposit of $1,000 will also receive incentives, such as invitations to exclusive member events, setting them on an exciting path toward future living arrangements.
As noted by Matt Shankle, VP of Marketing and Business Development, “People are retiring differently in 2025 and beyond.” The Halstead symbolizes the progressive lifestyle that many retirees seek today, focusing on longer periods of active engagement in their later years.
An Ideal Location
Location is crucial for any community, and The Halstead is strategically placed just west of the intersection of Q Avenue and 8th Street, in the vibra nt area of Texas Corners. Residents will have immediate access to various amenities, shopping, and dining options. Additionally, it is conveniently located just seven miles from the main Heritage Community campus on Portage Street.
A Commitment to Lifelong Care
In keeping with its mission as a Life Plan Community, Heritage Community of Kalamazoo will ensure that residents have access to all levels of senior living. The entrance fee plan for The Halstead will include a life care contract, promising ongoing care as needed.
The anticipated opening for The Halstead is set for 2028, marking an exciting new chapter for senior living in Kalamazoo. For those looking for more details or to enroll in the priority program, inquiries can be directed to HeritageCommunity.com/Texas-Township or by calling (269) 238-0862.
