Michter's Distillery Introduces New Whiskey Releases for 2025
Michter's Distillery, renowned for its commitment to quality, is gearing up to launch two exciting additions to its Legacy Series in July 2025. The new releases, Shenk's Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger's Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon, promise to be a highlight for whiskey aficionados.
Incorporating the year's bottling dates, these products represent two-thirds of the Legacy Series, with the third member, Bomberger's PFG™ (Precision Fine Grain), also arriving this year. Joseph J. Magliocco, President of Michter's, remarked, “Our production team has dedicated immense thought and effort into making our Legacy Series releases truly special.”
The history behind these whiskeys dates back to the founding of the Shenk's Distillery in Pennsylvania in 1753 by Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk. Over the years, it has undergone various name changes, including Bomberger's Distillery and, eventually, Michter's Distillery. Each release in the Legacy Series honors this rich heritage.
Shenk's Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey
Shenk's Homestead, with an alcohol content of 45.6% (91.2 proof), is set at a suggested retail price of $110. Master Distiller Dan McKee expressed his enthusiasm about the whiskey, stating, “I love the bold and enduring baking spice notes of the 2025 Shenk's. Part of the whiskey has been aged in toasted but not charred French oak barrels, crafted from Vosges wood, which helps highlight the rye character in this whiskey.” Shenk’s stands out due to its unique aging process, which is crucial to its overall character.
Bomberger's Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon
On the other hand, Bomberger's Declaration will offer a more intense experience, with an impressive alcohol content of 54% (108 proof) and a suggested retail price of $120. Andrea Wilson, Michter's Master of Maturation, commented, “I am very pleased with the result. Once again, the Chinquapin barrels contributed to the distinct flavor profile of Bomberger's Declaration. For this year's edition, we used a range of barrels made from naturally seasoned wood, aged from 18 months to 5 years, allowing the oak's chemistry to evolve during the maturing process. The result is a bold and layered experience to enjoy.”
In October 2024, Michter's was honored to be recognized as The World's Most Admired Whiskey by an international academy of voters, announced by the UK-based Drinks International. This accolade reflects Michter's long-standing commitment to producing traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. The distillery's highly acclaimed portfolio includes a variety of bourbons, ryes, sour mash whiskeys, and American whiskeys, with each product crafted in limited quantities and aged to perfection.
