WOTA Collaborates with UNIDO on Water Management in the Caribbean
WOTA Inc., a pioneering company in water solutions, has recently concluded a grant agreement with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). This significant partnership is part of the 'Industrial Cooperation Program through Technology Transfer from Japan to Global South Countries', aimed at promoting technology transfer and industrial cooperation in the Caribbean region. The signing of this agreement took place on May 21, 2026.
The Purpose of the Agreement
The main goal of this agreement is to implement a large-scale demonstration of decentralized water circulation systems primarily in Antigua and Barbuda, with a broader focus on the Caribbean region. WOTA intends to establish practical models for the introduction and operation of their household water circulation system, known as the
WOTA Unit.
This initiative aligns with a larger program funded by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which supports Japanese enterprises in conducting substantial demonstrations in Global South countries. By facilitating this program, UNIDO is advocating for technological innovation, strengthening supply chains, and establishing industrial infrastructure in these regions.
Innovative Water Solutions
WOTA specializes in developing decentralized water circulation systems that do not rely on existing water supply infrastructures. The
WOTA Unit, set to be employed in this demonstration, is designed to purify and recycle up to 97% of household wastewater generated from sources like bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry. This innovative system enables the safe reuse of water without needing connections to conventional water supply systems.
For carbon-neutrality and sustainability, the system is designed to compensate for any water shortfalls with rainwater or alternative sources, allowing for a flexible implementation tailored to regional characteristics regardless of current infrastructure conditions.
Impact and Future Goals
WOTA is committed to addressing the pressing challenges related to water infrastructure through sustainable resource utilization. This project marks a significant step in WOTA's mission, as they expand their efforts to support areas facing chronic water supply issues.
The anticipated benefits of implementing the
WOTA Unit include not only enhancing water availability but also contributing to public health improvements and disaster readiness in the region. WOTA has previously launched two products aimed at providing emergency water solutions during natural disasters where water supply may be compromised.
Furthermore, WOTA's household water circulation system has already started being utilized in select areas both domestically and internationally, demonstrating promising outcomes in local water management and conservation practices.
Conclusion
Through this partnership with UNIDO, WOTA hopes to significantly impact how water is managed in the Caribbean. As the need for sustainable water solutions becomes increasingly urgent, WOTA remains dedicated to innovating and implementing systems that can sustain communities amid growing environmental concerns.
