JAL Collaborates on the SWGs Declaration with Well-being Initiative Partners

JAL Unveils SWGs Declaration in Initiative for Societal Well-Being

Japan Airlines (JAL) has made a notable step forward in its commitment to societal well-being by jointly announcing the SWGs (Sustainable Well-being Goals) declaration with participants of the Well-being Initiative. This declaration, aiming at creating a harmonious balance among people, society, and the planet, establishes a new international agenda to follow the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that conclude in 2030. The ambitious goal of this initiative is to foster positive legacies for future generations.

The announcement serves as a starting point towards a vision that extends beyond just the SDGs. It aims to strengthen trust and collaboration among participating enterprises, paving the way for the creation of a Japanese-led international agenda focused on well-being. JAL Group has prioritized environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies in its mid-term management plan, integrating diverse assets from both aviation and non-aviation sectors. The company is dedicated to creating connections and relationships through travel, highlighting experiences like encountering new landscapes, connecting with diverse communities, and fostering a lasting affection for people and places.

In the recently published “JAL FUTURE MAP,” the group detailed its innovative ideas and future aspirations. This includes initiatives such as facilitating dual-living communities, travel academies, and the “DREAM MILES PASS” project, aimed at supporting young individuals pursuing their dreams. JAL is committed to enhancing the well-being of individuals through fostering new connections and values associated with movement, focusing on responsible and meaningful travel experiences.

The SWGs Declaration

The SWGs declaration represents a vision that looks beyond the SDGs, targeting a holistic approach encompassing people, society, and the environment. It emphasizes the transition from leaving a negative legacy to creating a positive one, incorporating fresh perspectives like hydrological considerations and future generation relations. Companies cooperating in this initiative convened on October 2, 2025, to officially endorse the SWGs declaration collectively. Read the full SWGs declaration here.

This declaration aims to set a direction for well-being across key areas concerning people, society, and the planet. It was unveiled at the 7th Nikkei Well-being Symposium, aligned with the Osaka-Kansai Expo theme week focused on “SDGs + Beyond: A Future Society where Life Shines.” On October 7, 2025, JAL Executive Vice President and Group CFO Yuji Saito will participate in a panel discussion titled “Corporate Value and Well-being from the Perspective of Future Generations.”
