Wells Fargo and Rebuilding Together Enhance Housing Repair Efforts Across the U.S.
In a significant move towards housing preservation, Wells Fargo has partnered with Rebuilding Together, announcing a philanthropic investment of $1.1 million aimed at facilitating essential home repairs in 30 communities across the United States. The ongoing challenge of maintaining safety and accessibility in homes is at the forefront of this initiative, which seeks to support homeowners, particularly those struggling financially.
The issue of home maintenance and safety is often overshadowed by the focus on developing new housing. However, Wells Fargo and Rebuilding Together are emphasizing that it is crucial to preserve existing homes through much-needed repairs, accessibility modifications, and community-focused housing solutions. The partnership is determined to combat displacement and foster stability in neighborhoods by investing in the homes that families already inhabit.
"Our discussions about housing often emphasize just building new homes; however, the preservation of current residences is just as critical," remarked Maureen Carlson, President, and CEO of Rebuilding Together. She highlighted that this investment could facilitate multiple repairs for the cost of constructing one new house, thereby reinforcing community integrity and making housing more affordable for those in need.
Celebration of this initiative took place in Novato, California, where leaders from both organizations gathered to mark the impact of their collaborative efforts. The investment will provide extensive repairs and enhancements for more than 70 households, directly contributing to neighborhood improvements and bolstering housing affordability.
Darlene Goins, head of Wells Fargo Philanthropy and Community Impact, articulated the belief that stable housing is fundamental for creating resilient communities. She expressed how their cooperation with Rebuilding Together focuses on supporting practical solutions that will allow older adults, veterans, and working families to remain in their homes. By prioritizing critical repairs and accessibility enhancements, Wells Fargo aims to create a lasting change, strengthening neighborhoods nationwide.
Since 2017, Wells Fargo and its foundation have generously contributed over $18 million to support Rebuilding Together and its affiliates, enriching rebuilding and revitalization efforts across the country. These investments have become instrumental in improving the living conditions of many families and ensuring that the issue of housing remains aligned with broader discussions about community welfare and accessibility.
The overarching goal of this partnership aligns with the vision of Rebuilding Together, a prominent national nonprofit committed to aid low-income households by providing no-cost home repairs.
