Introducing the New Battery Option for Corporate Electric Supply Services in Japan

Introduction of Battery Option

PowerX Corporation, headquartered in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, has announced the launch of a new electric supply service specifically designed for businesses called the Battery Option. This innovative service allows companies to install their energy storage systems with virtually no upfront costs.1 This initiative serves as an essential addition to PowerX's broader suite of corporate electricity supply solutions.

Service Overview

The Battery Option is targeted at businesses that currently subscribe to PowerX's various electricity retail plans, including Advance, Semi-Flat, Flat, and Market-Linked plans. It is specifically designed for medium to large-scale facilities like retail stores and factories that operate under high-voltage or special high-voltage electricity contracts. Through the Battery Option, PowerX aims to introduce its reliable stationary storage systems into these business environments.

The deployed energy storage system on the premises can be leveraged for both regular and emergency situations as follows:

  • - Regular Use: Businesses can continue to utilize electricity as they always have. The operation of the storage system is entirely managed by PowerX, so there is no need for the customer to undertake any daily operational tasks.
  • - Emergency Use: In the event of power outages caused by natural disasters, the independent operation capability of the storage system ensures a reliable power supply for essential operations in stores or factories.

Comprehensive Support by PowerX

PowerX takes full responsibility for the installation, maintenance, and operation of the energy storage systems. This means that businesses do not need to possess any specialized knowledge or manage operational complexities. The installation can be completed in an area roughly equivalent to one car's space.

Key Features of the Battery Option

  • - Target Audience: Businesses with high-voltage or special high-voltage electricity contracts.
  • - Eligible Plans: Available for all of PowerX's retail electricity plans such as Advance, Semi-Flat, Flat, and Market-Linked plans.
  • - Service Areas: Available throughout Japan, excluding Okinawa, across nine retail service regions.
  • - Storage System: The medium-sized energy storage system, PowerX Cube 360, offers a nominal capacity of 358 kWh. For larger commercial facilities or industrial operations, larger energy storage systems can be proposed.
  • - Cost Structure: The installation requires a leasing agreement, ensuring that the monthly lease cost is deducted from the electricity usage fees, resulting in no effective additional financial burden to the customer.

Commitment to Energy Self-Sufficiency

PowerX remains committed to its mission of enhancing Japan’s energy self-sufficiency. The company aims to promote the adoption of energy storage systems among electricity consumers through both product offerings and services. By expanding decentralized regulatory resources, PowerX seeks to contribute to stabilizing the electricity grid during the pivotal phase of renewable energy expansion.

1 Installation requires a leasing contract. By subtracting the equivalent of the monthly lease fee from the electricity usage charges, customers are relieved of any additional financial burdens.
