Shanghai Electric Completes Intensive Training for Employees in Pakistan's Thar Energy Project
In a significant move towards enhancing local expertise in energy production, Shanghai Electric has successfully concluded a comprehensive eight-day training program for employees involved in the Thar Coalfield Block I Energy Integration Project in Pakistan. This initiative, which is part of Shanghai Electric's broader commitment to sustainable development and talent cultivation, took place in Shanghai and Beijing, China. A total of twenty employees participated, including project managers and technicians, who delved into advanced industrial practices and the latest innovations in energy technology.
The training encompassed a variety of educational activities aimed at sharpening the participants' skills and expanding their knowledge base. Notably, the program featured seminars that highlighted Shanghai Electric's corporate culture and cutting-edge technologies, complemented by site visits to the Shanghai Boiler Works production facility. Participants also had the chance to visit the headquarters of Shanghai Electric, allowing them to gain insights into the company’s vision, encapsulated in the mantra 'Create Our Future Together.' This exposure inspired the trainees to embrace the company’s innovative approach and foster collaborative efforts.
Zia ul Qama, the Business Operations Manager for the Thar Project, remarked on the enriching experience, stating, 'It was a rewarding opportunity to closely observe the rich culture of China and learn more about Shanghai Electric’s operations. This training has motivated me to strive harder to achieve both the company’s goals and my personal aspirations for learning.'
The Thar Coalfield’s Block I project, which has been operational since February 2023, plays an essential role in meeting Pakistan’s energy demands, boasting an annual production capacity of 9 billion kilowatt-hours. This output is pivotal in providing energy to approximately 4 million households, highlighting the project’s importance beyond mere power generation; it underpins Shanghai Electric’s commitment to sustainable industrial growth and social progress.
In addition to enhancing workforce capabilities, Shanghai Electric has emphasized initiatives aimed at boosting opportunities for women within the energy sector. By creating a conducive and equitable work environment, the company has made significant strides in promoting gender inclusion in the workplace. In recognition of these efforts, Shanghai Electric received the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Award in 2023, presented by both the Employers Federation of Pakistan and the International Labour Organization.
Furthermore, the company has been acknowledged for its contributions to shared prosperity during the 16th Annual CSR Summit held in August 2023, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). With such initiatives, Shanghai Electric is paving the way for a sustainable future in the energy sector while uplifting local communities and fostering an inclusive workforce that reflects the diversity of society.
Through such innovative training programs, Shanghai Electric not only reinforces its role as a key energy provider but also invests in the future of the renewable energy landscape in Pakistan, ensuring that local talent is well-prepared to meet evolving industry needs and challenges. The commitment to education and talent development within the energy sector is integral to achieving long-term sustainability goals, thereby transforming the energy landscape in Pakistan and beyond.
