HiTHIUM Achieves Milestone in Energy Storage Safety with New Certification

HiTHIUM Advances Energy Storage Safety Standards

At the recent ESIE 2026 event held in Beijing from April 1-3, HiTHIUM revealed its innovative energy storage solutions, emphasizing safety and efficiency. Among the highlights was the Cell 1175Ah long-duration energy storage (LDES) battery and the 6.25MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

One of the most significant announcements was the completion of a large-scale fire test for the newly certified 6.25MWh BESS, validated by UL Solutions. This certification marks a historic achievement as it is the first of its kind globally, confirming the system's ability to withstand extreme fire conditions while maintaining robust performance. This demonstration involved an open-door test, which aims to set a new benchmark for safety in energy storage solutions.

The Significance of the Fire Test

During the certification presentation, Jiawu Chen, the Fire Test Project Lead at HiTHIUM, elaborated on the rigorous testing protocols employed. The test was designed to elucidate the safety capabilities of the system, translating complex validation processes into industry-wide insights. This transition from “design-level safety” to concrete, verifiable system safety marks a paradigm shift in reliability for long-duration energy storage systems.

The certification was announced at a dedicated ceremony, wherein Chi Chen from UL Solutions emphasized the expanded safety validation methods in the 6th Edition of UL 9540A. This advancement includes comprehensive assessments under full-container and system-level fire scenarios. By adhering to these elevated standards, HiTHIUM's 6.25MWh BESS has successfully met stringent safety requirements critical for global market access.

Testing Methodologies and Outcomes

The extreme fire test for the BESS was conducted with full oversight from UL Solutions. Implementing the latest safety protocols under UL 9540A (2025) and NFPA 855 (2026), the test introduced severe conditions, including the placement of the battery at a 100% state of charge with active fire protection systems disabled. Remarkably, the results indicated that the fire was effectively contained within the test container, with no risk of thermal propagation to adjacent units. The structural integrity of the enclosure was also preserved after the event, showcasing the system's exceptional resilience.

Industry Collaboration and Future Directions

At ESIE 2026, HiTHIUM also engaged with industry stakeholders through interactive sessions focusing on the ∞Cell 1175Ah LDES battery. This effort reflects the company's commitment to fostering collaboration within the energy storage ecosystem.

HiTHIUM's manufacturing site in Chongqing, recognized as the world's first Lighthouse Factory dedicated to energy storage batteries, illustrates its commitment to innovation. By integrating over 40 advanced digital solutions, including AI and machine learning, the factory achieves unparalleled production efficiency and quality assurance.

Looking forward, HiTHIUM intends to maintain its leadership in long-duration energy storage, prioritizing product safety and scalability. Through partnerships with international enterprises, the company aims to contribute to the ongoing evolution of the energy storage industry and support the global energy transition towards sustainable practices.
