AmpUp's Innovative Adapt Program Offers Threefold Grid Efficiency Over Peaker Plants

AmpUp's Adapt Program Revolutionizes EV Charging and Grid Management

The electric vehicle (EV) landscape is evolving rapidly, and leading the charge is AmpUp, a prominent name in intelligent EV charging solutions. On September 23, 2025, AmpUp announced the successful conclusion of its Adapt program pilot in Connecticut, a groundbreaking initiative that proved to be more than just a technological advancement; it represented a shift towards a sustainable future. The program demonstrated an ability to manage grid demand three times more efficiently than traditional peaker plants, especially during peak heat waves.

Transforming Energy Use with the Adapt Program

The Adapt program, part of the Connecticut Innovative Energy Solutions (IES) initiative, focuses on integrating Level 2 EV chargers into the energy grid. By doing so, it balances energy demand while enhancing the charging experience for EV drivers. The pilot phase, which concluded on June 30, 2025, showcased how charging infrastructure could be optimized to support sustainability and grid stability.

In a notable change, the program incentivizes EV drivers to participate actively in grid management. It allows them to schedule their charging sessions flexibly in exchange for wallet credits via the AmpUp mobile application. This model not only helps alleviate grid pressure but rewards users, creating a mutually beneficial relationship between EV drivers and utility companies.

Results Speak Volumes

The results from the Adapt program pilot were remarkable. In just three months, it shifted an impressive 5,450 kWh from peak demand periods to off-peak hours through more than 650 charging sessions. This shift resulted in significant cost savings, with expenses recorded at less than $0.50 per kWh—substantially lower than the average costs incurred by peaker plants during peak heat events. This threefold cost advantage provides evidence that innovative models can lead to a more cost-effective energy management strategy.

Moreover, driver satisfaction was notably high, with over 85% of drivers rating the program positively. This feedback highlights the program's success in creating an experience that prioritizes driver needs while accomplishing essential grid functions. Real-time performance visibility is another feature that AmpUp provided, offering utility companies insights and data that were previously unattainable under conventional charging management schemes.

A Balance for All Stakeholders

David Jackson, COO of AmpUp, expressed his enthusiasm for the program’s achievements, noting its ability to manage EV charging dynamically, thus supporting grid stability without detracting from the user experience. He described the adaptation as
