CGX Unveils Cutting-Edge Obstacle Racing Shoes at UIPM 2026 Championships

CGX Unveils Innovative Obstacle Racing Shoes

On September 2, 2026, at the UIPM 2026 Obstacle World Championships in Beijing, the Chinese outdoor footwear brand CGX showcased its latest models—the CGXOCR R1010 and R1020 professional obstacle racing shoes. These shoes are designed specifically for athletes competing in various obstacle racing formats and will be worn by the Chinese Modern Pentathlon Obstacle Race Team as they make their international competitive debut.

A New Era in Obstacle Racing Footwear

CGX enters the competition as a partner with the Chinese Modern Pentathlon Association, also serving as a sponsor in this prestigious championship event, which runs from September 2 to September 6. This iteration of the championships is part of UIPM's Race Across China series and features elite athletes competing in individual events spanning 100m, 400m, and 3km, along with relay and team competitions. Notably, obstacle racing is set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, further cementing its importance within modern pentathlon.

Nan Liu, the CEO of CGX, emphasizes the transformative approach that went into the development of these shoes. With over 20 years of expertise in footwear design, he sought to address the unique challenges faced by obstacle racers. Unlike traditional running, obstacle racing demands a combination of agility, speed, and versatility, requiring shoes that provide not just forward momentum but also traction, stability, and control over varying terrains.

Athlete-Driven Design Process

The development of the R1010 and R1020 models involved extensive feedback from nearly 20 accomplished athletes, ensuring that the final designs were tailored to the rigors of obstacle racing. After multiple rounds of prototyping and revisions, these shoes emerged to meet the demands of athletes who not only need to run but also climb, jump, and navigate through a variety of obstacles at speed.

The R1020 is tailored for the explosive requirements of the 100m format, focusing on rapid starts and quick transitions. Meanwhile, the R1010 is engineered for longer races (400m and 3km), balancing obstacle performance with the necessary cushioning and propulsion for sustained speed.

Innovative Features for Performance

Both models boast five integrated performance features designed to enhance athlete performance:

1. Full-Spectrum Obstacle Traction System: This system optimizes the lug layout and load zones of the Vibram rubber outsole to facilitate powerful push-offs, braking, climbing, and landing.
2. Vibram Megagrip Compound: This technology ensures exceptional grip and traction while maintaining the durability and lightweight nature of the shoe.
3. Dual-Zone Stability Midsole: By combining rigid support with softer cushioning zones, this midsole absorbs impact and maintains shape across varied surfaces.
4. Dual-Structure Heel Stability System: This innovative feature includes stabilizers that provide structure and containment, crucial during climbs and landings.
5. Tiangong Performance-Woven Upper: Engineered for maximal stability while ensuring breathability and containment, this upper material supports quick movements.

Launch and Availability

The CGXOCR R1010 and R1020 will officially launch in China on September 7, 2026, at a retail price of RMB 1,099 per pair.
They will be available at key locations such as CGX flagship stores on platforms like Tmall, Douyin, and Xiaohongshu, as well as select physical stores across major cities including Shanghai and Wuhan.

Moving forward, CGX aims to further refine its footwear based on athlete insights from ongoing training and events. The introduction of the CGXOCR line marks an essential step toward advancing the sport, as well as CGX's commitment to supporting the new generation of obstacle racing athletes globally.
