Learn to Safely Manage Foreign Travelers During Disasters: Seminar Enrollment Open

Seminar on Disaster Response for Foreign Travelers in Tokyo

In light of increasing travel and the importance of ensuring the safety of foreign tourists during emergencies, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is hosting a practical seminar aimed specifically at tourism-related businesses. This event is scheduled for February 13th, 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00, at the TKP Shinbashi Conference Center, located in Chiyoda. The aim of the seminar is to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide proper information and guidance during disasters, particularly earthquakes.

Who Should Attend?

The seminar caters to various stakeholders in the tourism industry, including accommodation providers, restaurants, retail businesses, and related organizations within Tokyo. A total of 50 participants can register on a first-come, first-served basis.

Seminar Program

The program consists of two key components:
1. Lecture by Prof. Seung-kyung Choi:
This session will focus on understanding the behaviors and needs of foreign travelers during earthquakes. Prof. Choi, from Gunma University, will shed light on the safety measures and evacuation strategies that should be in place. The lecture includes case studies from both domestic and international contexts, offering insights into how travelers collect information and make decisions in crises.
2. Workshop for Simulation:
A hands-on exercise will follow the lecture where participants will engage in a tabletop training session focusing on immediate response strategies such as situation explanation and evacuation guidance. Using real-world scenarios that take into account the unique characteristics and requirements of foreign travelers, participants can share insights and receive feedback from the instructor. No prior expertise or materials are required, making it accessible for everyone, including first-time attendees.

In addition, the seminar will showcase essential resources for initial disaster response, including the Tokyo Disaster Response Manual and mobile applications designed to assist during emergencies.
