Chicago Drives Electric: The Premiere EV Event Celebrates Growth in Electric Vehicle Awareness and Ownership

Chicago Drives Electric 2025

The Chicago Drives Electric event, organized by the Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA), has successfully concluded its fourth edition from October 2-5, 2025, in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. This year’s event was characterized by its most extensive lineup yet, featuring 16 automotive brands and an impressive array of 44 electrified vehicle models available for consumer testing and education.

Launched in 2022, Chicago Drives Electric has developed into a unique platform where consumers can experience the world of electric vehicles (EVs) firsthand. This event aims to dispel misconceptions about EV ownership and replace them with informed choices supported by real-world experiences. CATA President Jennifer Morand emphasized that the initiative has become essential for potential buyers considering the switch to electric or hybrid vehicles, stating, “Chicago Drives Electric is designed to break down barriers to EV ownership by giving consumers the tools, insights and first-hand experience they need to make an informed decision.”

Attendance this year was robust, with a total of 855 registered drivers and over 4,500 individual test drives conducted, showcasing sustained enthusiasm for EVs amongst consumers. The lineup included vehicles from major automakers such as BMW, Tesla, Ford, and Chevrolet, catering to a variety of preferences, from luxury cars to practical family SUVs. Each participant received guidance from expert product specialists, enhancing their understanding of the evolving electric vehicle market.

Collaboration with industry leaders played a crucial role in the event's success. ComEd, the event's presenting sponsor, had experts onsite to provide valuable insights regarding electric vehicle charging solutions, home installation options, and available rebates or incentives for potential buyers. Cars.com, the premier sponsor, also contributed by offering guidance on navigating the different EV options and managing vehicle trade-ins.

Ryan Kelly, Chairman of CATA, remarked, “Collaboration with industry leaders and partners has transformed Chicago Drives Electric into more than just a test drive event; it's a true resource hub. It's a place where people can ask real questions and leave with practical, actionable knowledge.” The rich collaborative environment not only entertained but educated attendees about the various aspects of EV ownership.

Surveys conducted after the event revealed that 79% of participants felt more inclined towards purchasing an electric vehicle, and for 20% of them, it marked their first experience handling an EV. Highlighting the significance of hands-on experience, these figures underscore how vital such events are in shaping public perceptions about electric vehicles. Moreover, 92% of attendees indicated that their opinions on EV ownership had improved, reaffirming the role of initiatives like Chicago Drives Electric in influencing consumer attitudes toward electric vehicles.

For those who could not attend this autumn, there is good news ahead. Chicago Drives Electric returns in February 2026, as part of the annual Chicago Auto Show, which will also feature an indoor EV test track at McCormick Place. This interactive setting will once again provide consumers with the chance to experience the latest electrified vehicles and deepen their understanding of transitioning to EV ownership.

Jennifer Morand expressed excitement about the upcoming event, noting, “The indoor EV test track has become a fan favorite at the Chicago Auto Show. We're excited to bring this experience back in 2026, continuing to educate and empower consumers as more brands launch innovative electric vehicles.”

The 2026 Chicago Auto Show is scheduled for February 7-16 at McCormick Place, with Media Preview Days on February 5-6 and a First Look for Charity gala on February 6. Interested parties can find more information and updates on the Chicago Auto Show by visiting ChicagoAutoShow.com.
