Tech Mahindra and AWS Join Forces to Revolutionize Telecom Networks Using Generative AI Technology

Tech Mahindra and AWS Partnership

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Tech Mahindra, a prominent global provider of technology consulting and digital solutions, has entered into a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This alliance aims to create an innovative Autonomous Networks Operations Platform (ANOP) tailored for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and enterprise customers. The ANOP is set to leverage cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and generative AI (GenAI), all powered by AWS.

The Need for Transformation

The telecommunications sector is at a significant turning point. As service providers face pressing demands for more efficient operations and modernized networks, the integration of advanced technologies is critical. CSPs require a shift from traditional, on-premises network operations to agile and proactive models that can operate seamlessly in hybrid cloud environments. Tech Mahindra seeks to meet this challenge head-on with its ANOP platform.

Features of the Autonomous Networks Operations Platform

The ANOP is designed to enhance Network Operations Center (NOC) productivity by over 50% for teams managing both physical and cloud infrastructures. One of its standout features is the significant reduction in field visit requirements by more than 15%, which not only saves costs but also improves overall service efficiency. Additionally, the platform is engineered to shorten the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) for network and service incidents by over 30%, which is a game changer for service reliability.

Furthermore, speed and efficiency in implementing network and service configurations will see improvements exceeding 30%, significantly enhancing operational workflows. The integration of Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service that offers high-performing foundation models (FMs) via a single API, will also aid in the development of GenAI applications while prioritizing security and responsible AI practices.

Industry Expert Insights

Manish Mangal, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Telecom Global Business at Tech Mahindra, remarked on the collaboration's impact, stating, "The communications industry is at a pivotal junction... Our partnership with AWS empowers telcos to simplify operations, modernize networks, and unlock revenue through advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning."

This sentiment is echoed by Robin Harwani, Head of Telco Industry Solutions at AWS, who highlighted the practical implications of the ANOP: "Through this effort, network operators can gain generative AI-enabled actionable recommendations for NOC operations and field dispatch optimization, making it easier for them to manage network performance proactively and reduce operational costs."

Testing and Validation

Tech Mahindra is also putting the finishing touches on testing and validating O-RAN functions on Amazon's EKS Anywhere (EKS-A) platform. This joint effort is expected to accelerate the cloudification of Radio Access Networks (RAN) at the edge, marking a significant milestone in the cloud transformation journey of telecom networks. The collaboration is anticipated to yield comprehensive advancements that will benefit the wider industry landscape.

The ANOP platform is currently being implemented for a leading telecommunications provider based in Europe, aimed at further enhancing network operations through process automation and optimization.

In conclusion, the partnership between Tech Mahindra and AWS signifies a transformative moment in the telecommunications sector, as it combines vast expertise and technology to redefine network operations, ultimately benefiting communication service providers and customers alike.
