Revolutionary Metallo-Balance Test Launches in Ikebukuro for Cancer and MCI Risk Assessment

In a groundbreaking move for health assessment, the Metallo-Balance Test, which evaluates the risk of cancer and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), will start accepting reservations from August at the Ikebukuro Metropolitan Clinic, located in Toshima, Tokyo. Developed by Renatech Co., Ltd., based in Isehara, Kanagawa Prefecture, this innovative test requires just a small blood sample of 6mL to provide individuals with crucial insights into their health status.

Understanding the Metallo-Balance Test

The Metallo-Balance Test is a risk screening exam designed to objectively analyze the balance of 17 trace elements (metal elements) in the bloodstream. This analysis sheds light on risks associated with both cancer and MCI. By detecting imbalances of these essential nutrients, health professionals can offer tailored recommendations to address potential health concerns before they become critical.

Key Features of the Test:

1. Minimal Blood Draw: Only a single, 6mL blood draw is needed, ensuring minimal physical discomfort. The procedure is conducted under proper medical supervision, taking approximately 15 minutes to complete.

2. Comprehensive Cancer Risk Evaluation: This test assesses multiple types of cancer risk specific to both genders. For men, the assessment includes risks for lung cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer. For women, the evaluation covers these areas in addition to breast cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer.

3. Thorough MCI Risk Assessment: The test evaluates overall risk for various types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, vascular, and Lewy body dementia, to ensure an inclusive health check.

4. Validated Research Backing: Developed with research funding from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, the test has been co-created with the Kanagawa Cancer Center and the Chiba Cancer Center, leading to its acceptance in nine countries, with over 100,000 individuals screened internationally from April 2019 to March 2026.

Booking and Procedure

Individuals must book a test approximately three weeks in advance as there are required documentation procedures to follow. Appointments can be made via the Renatech website or by phone. On the test day, patients will experience a streamlined, appointment-based process for blood collection, with test results mailed approximately three weeks post-testing.

Important Considerations:

  • - Pre-Test Conditions: Test participants should refrain from eating or drinking alcohol from 9 PM the night before. However, staying hydrated with water is encouraged. Medications should be taken as normal, but over-the-counter supplements should be avoided the day prior.
  • - Costs: The Metallo-Balance Test is a private medical service, and patients can choose different service options, including a cancer risk test costing 19,800 yen or a combined cancer and MCI risk test for 24,200 yen, inclusive of taxes.
  • - Eligibility Criteria: For the cancer risk test, ages range from 20 to 80, and for the MCI risk test, it targets individuals aged 50 to 80. Foreign nationals may also take the test, but results may only serve as reference values for them.
  • - Prohibited Candidates: Certain individuals are ineligible, including pregnant women, those undergoing cancer treatment, and individuals with specific health conditions.
