CeraVe's Global Initiative to Enhance Access to Skin Health Care

CeraVe's Commitment to Global Skin Health

In an impactful move towards addressing global skin health issues, CeraVe, the leading dermatologist-recommended skincare brand in the U.S., has stepped forward to support health leaders worldwide. This initiative aims to provide skin care access to underserved populations, especially on World Skin Health Day, celebrated annually on July 8.

A Global Initiative for Health Equity

This year marks the second consecutive year that CeraVe has participated as a corporate sponsor for World Skin Health Day, organized by the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and the International Society of Dermatology (ISD). The day not only raises awareness about skin health issues but also sparks vital dialogue and action needed to improve the condition worldwide. CeraVe's efforts this summer reached over 3,900 patients across nine countries as part of their initiatives.

The statistics are alarming: one in three individuals faces skin-related issues, yet in several countries, there is less than one dermatologist per million people. This disparity leaves 3 billion people without access to dermatological care. Recognizing this, CeraVe has partnered with ILDS and ISD with a mission to bridge this gap, making dermatological expertise accessible to more patients globally.

Inspiring Global Awareness

The campaign for World Skin Health Day engaged participants from 76 countries who shared campaign messages, stories, and activities on social media and other digital formats, culminating in an impressive reach of over 4.5 million. Coinciding with CeraVe's 20th anniversary, the brand hosted a global celebration focused on accessible dermatological solutions along with influential dermatologists and creators.

Noteworthy initiatives included:
  • - In Indonesia, over 220 patients received dermatological care, with the commitment of more than 60 government officials to support skin health.
  • - In Nigeria, more than 1,200 patients accessed dermatological services for the first time.
  • - In Bangladesh, mobile dermatology units were deployed to flood-prone remote areas, diagnosing and treating over 1,000 individuals.
  • - In the Philippines, nearly 50 dermatologists and healthcare professionals attended to 163 patients in a remote community while training 136 additional healthcare workers.

In the United States, CeraVe collaborated with the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) to prioritize skin health for marginalized communities. Dermatologists volunteered to provide care at NAFC clinics across the country, and CeraVe's Skin Health Advisors led educational sessions at various locations. As a result, CeraVe and NAFC collectively benefitted hundreds of patients and volunteers, fostering long-lasting action in the community.

Voices from the Partnership

Ariana Gordillo, Senior Director of NAFC emphasized the immense value added through the partnership with CeraVe, stating, “Our continued collaboration has expanded our outreach and educational opportunities significantly.” The concern over the limited access to specialized skin care both globally and locally, resonates deeply with the mission of CeraVe.

Dr. Henry W. Lim, Executive Director of ILDS, echoed similar sentiments: “This year's event highlighted the profound impact of skin diseases on billions globally and underscored the urgent need for increased access to dermatological care.” CeraVe Care For All initiatives stand testament to this commitment, funding nine impactful programs in underserved regions around the world.

A Call for Equity in Skin Health

CeraVe's initiatives not only extend care but also empower frontline health workers, aspiring to aid millions facing skin health challenges. Tom Allison, Senior Vice President of Medical Dermatology Marketing at L'Oréal, stated, “Skin health is a fundamental human right. Our support for initiatives like World Skin Health Day provides a global platform to foster dialogue, promote equity, and lead to meaningful change.”

As CeraVe continues to break down barriers in skin care, their ongoing support for World Skin Health Day stands as a crucial step in empowering dermatological professionals and enhancing awareness. For more insight into CeraVe's philanthropic endeavors, visit CeraVe Care For All.
