NIPPON POP: An Exhibition by Taro Yamamoto
From August 6 to August 12, 2026, the Artglorieux GALLERY OF TOKYO, located on the fifth floor of GINZA SIX, will host a captivating exhibition titled
NIPPON POP featuring artist
Taro Yamamoto. This exhibit merges traditional Japanese painting with contemporary elements, presenting a fresh perspective on classical art forms.
Taro Yamamoto, hailing from Kumamoto Prefecture, is well-known for his unique
NIPPON GALLERY style, where he blends historic art techniques with modern pop sentiments. His recent works, part of a new series called
NEO UKIYOE, revitalize Edo-period ukiyo-e prints with vibrant colors and modern themes, bridging the past and the present.
During this exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to view and purchase
charity artwork titled
Kumamoto Castle Balloon Map (2023), with proceeds directed towards supporting victims of the
Kumamoto Earthquake that occurred in Reiwa 8. Yamamoto expresses his heartfelt condolences to those affected by the disaster and hopes for the revival of his vibrant hometown—Kumamoto.
Key Features of the Exhibition
The exhibition will feature a variety of artworks, including:
- - Blue Thunder God Green Horn (2026)
- - Pink Wind God Green Horn (2026)
- - IRIS Garden na (2026)
- - IRIS Garden tu (2026)
- - Flowers Iris Series (2024)
These pieces will showcase traditional techniques with a pop art twist, inviting viewers to revisit the beauty of
Japanese culture while experiencing its contemporary evolution.
In his own words, Yamamoto comments, “I extend my deepest sympathies to everyone affected by the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake. I have personally felt the heartbreak of witnessing my hometown face another catastrophe after years of rebuilding from a major earthquake. As someone who resides outside Kumamoto, I have limited ways to assist, but I hope to contribute through my art.” All profits from the
Kumamoto Castle Balloon Map will be donated entirely to recovery efforts.
Art Event and More
In addition to the exhibition, Taro Yamamoto will host an accompanying talk event titled “The Enjoyable Aspects of NIPPON GALLERY,” featuring guest artist and announcer
Tohru Azuma on August 8, 2026. This event will allow attendees to delve deeper into the inspirations behind Yamamoto's art, and will also be streamed on the ARToVILLA Instagram account.
The
