Moldova Digital Summit 2026: A Testament to Digital Progress

The Moldova Digital Summit 2026 (MDS26) took place in Chișinău, attracting around 4,000 participants, over 100 speakers, and 45 exhibitors. This event was pivotal in showcasing Moldova's advancements in the digital field and its integration into the European digital economy. With a focus on technology, investment, and innovation, the summit brought together key stakeholders from government, the private sector, and international organizations.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, emphasized that Moldova is already a shining example of digital success. She praised the country's competitive edge in digital services, where local talent competes on an international level, generating wealth and allowing young professionals to develop their careers while remaining connected to their roots. According to Kos, this digital sector plays a crucial role in the economic convergence with the European Union.

Moldova's ICT sector has emerged as the most significant economic success story, boasting nearly 3,000 companies that employ over 26,000 professionals. These businesses cater to international clients, drawing a substantial portion of their revenue from exports, which contributes around 7% to the national GDP. In 2025 alone, companies operating within the Moldova Innovative Technology Park (MITP) achieved total revenues exceeding $1 billion, a testament to the thriving digital landscape.

Combining competitive talent, robust digital infrastructure, and alignment with EU standards positions Moldova as a burgeoning innovation hub for an expanding European Union. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that digitalization represents a commitment to competitiveness, transparency, and resilience, aiming for broader participation in shaping Europe's digital future.

Moldova holds a lead in regional digital public services, with a well-advanced interoperability framework. Currently, 78% of public services for businesses are available online, significantly diminishing administrative burdens while facilitating swift interactions with government institutions. In 2025, these digital services saved citizens and companies an impressive 44 million euros and over 9.3 million hours—remarkable metrics illustrating the efficiency of Moldova's public sector.

The summit also debuted EVO 2.0, the next generation of Moldova's integrated government application. This digital identity wallet fully complies with the European digital identity framework, enabling secure access for citizens to share verified documents and personal data directly from their smartphones.

Moreover, the MDS26 conference sparked a transition from being a digital stronghold to developing physical innovation capabilities. Initial memorandums and statements of intent for the Moldova High Technology Park were announced during the event. This ambitious project, envisioned as a 50-hectare innovation campus near Chișinău, aims to attract over 200 million euros in investments and will house a government data center, a nanotechnology cluster, and a healthcare technology innovation hub.

Under the sponsorship of the government, the Moldova Digital Summit 2026 was orchestrated by several entities, including the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the Moldovan Association of ICT Companies, the Electronic Governance Agency, and the Moldova Innovation Technology Park along with Tekwill. As the summit wrapped up, it left an indelible mark on Moldova's journey towards establishing itself as a pivotal player in the digital arena.
