BodyHoliday Unveils New Leadership Team for Global Expansion

BodyHoliday, recognized as the pioneer of wellness resort tourism in the Caribbean since 1988, has recently announced a remarkable transformation in its leadership structure. This new global leadership team, composed of seasoned executives from prestigious brands like Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, IHG, and Soho House, aims to propel the company into its next phase of expansion.

With plans underway for its first European destination, BodyHoliday Algarve in Portugal, this strategic appointment underscores BodyHoliday's commitment to holistic wellness experiences combined with luxury hospitality. Andrew Barnard, the CEO of SunSwept Resorts, which encompasses BodyHoliday, emphasizes that the significance of true wellness lies in its intuitive nature, centered around body awareness rather than rigid routines. Barnard believes that their expansion into Portugal will create an oasis enabling guests to rediscover joy and balance in their lives.

Set to open in 2029, BodyHoliday Algarve will be a luxurious five-star sanctuary nestled on the stunning eastern coast of Portugal, just 45 minutes from Faro International Airport. The location, discovered by Barnard during his travels, sits adjacent to the protected Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, offering breathtaking views and immediate access to the tranquil sands of Praia da Lota.

The architectural plans, crafted by the prestigious London firm Gensler, envision a harmonious integration with the natural landscape. The complex will span 10.5 hectares and feature 175 rooms and suites, five dining establishments, and a wellness center encompassing 3,700 square meters with over 40 treatment rooms. Additionally, guests will enjoy a state-of-the-art fitness facility, multiple pools—including a striking infinity pool—and a lush garden designed for relaxation.

Offering a wide array of health and wellness programs, BodyHoliday has gained recognition among industry connoisseurs, consistently ranked among the top spas worldwide by esteemed publications such as Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure. The resort's commitment to an all-inclusive experience involving daily spa treatments, expert-led fitness programs, and healthy gourmet dining options has established it as a leader in wellness tourism.

This expansion comes at a moment when global wellness tourism is projected to reach $9 trillion by 2028, according to the Global Wellness Institute, indicating a thriving market. The newly formed leadership team consists of industry experts, each bringing invaluable expertise to support BodyHoliday's mission.

  • - Indu Brar serves as the Chief Operating Officer, with over three decades of experience in luxury hotels, including senior positions at Fairmont and as a leader for Accor’s North American and Central American operations.
  • - Jean-Charles Denis joins as Chief Financial Officer, bringing over a decade of experience from IHG, where he oversaw significant elements of their international hotel portfolio and growth strategies.
  • - Kevin Bundy takes the role of Chief Projects Officer, leveraging over 20 years in real estate development, including overseeing major projects like the Battersea Power Station redevelopment.

Additionally, the company has appointed non-executive board members who bolster its strategic approach:
  • - Jeremy Plummer, the chairperson, previously served as the global investments director at CBRE Investment Management, managing real estate assets valued at $120 billion.
  • - Alice Avis MBE, former CEO of The Sanctuary Spa Group, tripled its value before selling it and has since held executive roles at Lumene Oy.
  • - Mia Kyricos, a global strategist in wellness hospitality, has held leadership roles at Hyatt, Spafinder, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts and is a founding member of the Global Wellness Institute.

In Plummer's words, “This marks a crucial chapter in BodyHoliday’s history. With an exceptional leadership team at the helm, we honor a legacy we are proud of while shaping the next generation of transformative wellness destinations.” BodyHoliday continues to reflect its core values: movement, adventure, joy, and the power of human connection.
