Yamashita Corporation Expands Care Equipment Rentals to Wuxi, China

Yamashita Corporation Expands to Wuxi

In April 2026, Yamashita Corporation, known for its rental and sales of care equipment, launched a new subsidiary named "Yamashita Fuzhi (Wuxi) Health Management Co., Ltd." This establishment marks Yamashita's continuing expansion into the Chinese market, now featuring a total of four business locations within China, including Shanghai, Tianjin, Chengdu, and now Wuxi.

Responding to the Growing Demand for Home Care in China

China has seen accelerated aging in recent years, partially attributed to policies such as the one-child policy enacted from 1979 to 2014. By 2022, around 15% of the population was aged 65 and older, with major cities like Shanghai seeing this figure rise to approximately 28%. In response to this demographic shift, the Chinese government elevated the aging society issue to a national strategy in March 2021. In the governmental work report from the Third Session of the 14th National People's Congress in March 2025, plans were outlined to enhance support for the purchase and rental of care equipment as part of a broader initiative to strengthen social security and service policies.

Business Development in Wuxi

Starting in April 2026, Wuxi will implement a public assistance program for care equipment rentals, providing a 50% subsidy for rental costs to seniors aged 80 and above or those requiring care. Low-income families can benefit from subsidies of up to 70%. Yamashita Fuzhi (Wuxi) has been selected as a service provider in four out of Wuxi's five administrative districts, gearing up to launch rental services in these areas. Additionally, the care equipment retail brand "Yamatsuki Runkyu" will open its store in Wuxi in May 2026. This store will serve not only as a sales point but also as a showroom for care equipment rentals, providing customers a chance to experience products firsthand.

About Wuxi City

Wuxi, located approximately 130 km west of Shanghai in Jiangsu Province, is a core city with a population of around 7.5 million. The aging rate in Jiangsu is notable, with an estimated 15% to 18% of the population aged 65 and older. This demographic trend indicates an increasing demand for home care services, making it a strategic region for Yamashita's expansion.

Overview of Yamashita's Expansion in China

Yamashita Corporation began its rental and sales operations in Japan long before the implementation of the long-term care insurance system in 1986. Presently, it oversees operations in over 80 locations across Japan. Leveraging expertise in product management, sanitation, user assessment, and logistics, Yamashita aims to develop home care infrastructure in China. Since its entry into Shanghai in 2020, Yamashita has expanded into rental services, care renovations, and showroom operations. Notably, in 2024, it established "Yamashita (Shanghai) Elderly Services Co., Ltd," to manage its operations in the country, followed by the creation of "Yamashita Weilanfan (Shanghai) Industrial Development Co., Ltd" in 2025, in partnership with leading care product wholesaler Wellfan. This collaboration aims to promote Japanese-style care services in China, enhancing its market presence further.

Moreover, in 2025, Yamashita expanded its presence by establishing "Yamashita Fuzhi (Chengdu) Health Management Co., Ltd." which participated in a trial service program for rental products organized by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs. By February 2026, it began the rollout of retail spaces titled "Yamatsuki Runkyu Silver Lifestyle Experience Halls," with six stores currently operating in China, including major urban locations in Chengdu and Shanghai.
