Michter's Distillery Introduces 2025 Legacy Series with Unique Whiskeys
Michter's Distillery: Celebrating Tradition with 2025 Legacy Series
Michter's Distillery is set to launch two remarkable whiskeys this July: Shenk's Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger's Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon. These limited-edition releases are part of the esteemed Legacy Series, which pays homage to the distillery's rich heritage.
The history of Michter's goes back to 1753 when Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk established a distillery in Pennsylvania. Over the years, the distillery has undergone several name changes, becoming Bomberger's Distillery in the 1800s before finally being known as Michter's in the mid-20th century. This storied background is a key aspect of the Legacy Series, celebrating the enduring craftsmanship and tradition that define Michter's.
President of Michter's, Joseph J. Magliocco, shared the commitment that goes into the Legacy Series: "Our Michter's production team puts a great deal of thought and a lot of effort into making our Legacy Series releases special.” The upcoming 2025 offerings are no exception.
Michter's Master Distiller, Dan McKee, expressed his enthusiasm for the 2025 Shenk's whiskey, stating, "I really enjoy the bold and lingering baking spice notes in the 2025 Shenk's release." This whiskey has been specially finished in French oak toasted barrels created from wood sourced from the Vosges forest, enhancing its rye character significantly. With an impressive 91.2 proof (45.6% ABV), Shenk's will retail for a suggested price of $110.
On the other hand, Bomberger's Declaration, masterfully crafted by Michter's Master of Maturation, Andrea Wilson, undergoes a complex maturation process. "For this year's release we used a spectrum of different barrels constructed from wood naturally seasoned outdoors in various cases from 18 months to 5 years. This approach changes the chemistry of the oak’s contributions during aging,” she noted. The result is a bold, multi-dimensional drinking experience. Bomberger's Declaration boasts a higher 108 proof (54% ABV) and is suggested to retail at $120.
The craftsmanship behind these whiskeys not only showcases Michter's dedication to quality but also reflects its innovative approach to whiskey making. Michter's is notably recognized for its traditional American whiskeys, including bourbon and rye, each meticulously aged to perfection. In 2024, it made history by being named The World's Most Admired Whiskey for two consecutive years, as voted by an international panel of experts, signifying its stature in the competitive whiskey landscape.
