Recurrent Energy Celebrates 127 MW Solar Project Opening in Louisiana with Community Leaders

Recurrent Energy's Launch of the Bayou Galion Solar Project

On April 21, 2025, Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., proudly announced the successful operation of its 127 MWdc solar project, Bayou Galion, located in Northeast Louisiana. This significant milestone took place during a tour and ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought together local community leaders and officials.

The Bayou Galion Solar project began operations in November 2024 and aims to address the growing electricity demand in Louisiana, particularly from manufacturing plants and data centers that require reliable power sources. This push for solar energy has led to over $2 billion in cumulative solar investments in the state as of the end of 2024.

At the inauguration event, community leaders expressed their enthusiasm for the new facility, reiterating its positive impact on the local economy. The Bayou Galion project is expected to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 20,500 homes each year, while also providing new tax revenues that can benefit the surrounding areas. In a gesture of goodwill, Recurrent Energy announced a donation to the Cotton Country Players, a local theatre group that supports the historic Rose Theatre nearby.

Dorothy Ford, Executive Director of the Bastrop-Morehouse Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the significance of solar energy in creating local jobs and revenue. She remarked, "Solar energy creates a positive impact on its community. From creating jobs to generating local revenue, we at the Bastrop-Morehouse Chamber of Commerce recognize the importance of what Bayou Galion Solar is contributing to our economic growth."

Kay King, CEO of the Morehouse Economic Development Corporation, commended Recurrent Energy on completing the project. King noted that the solar development not only enhances the tax base but also diversifies the electrical power sources in the area—factors crucial for future growth in Morehouse Parish.

Jeffrey Clark, President of Advanced Power Alliance, added, "Bayou Galion is a state-of-the-art energy investment that will help provide Louisiana with affordable power to benefit every consumer in the state. With tax revenue for local schools and governments, along with clean, affordable energy for consumers, Bayou Galion is a win-win for residents."

Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, stated that the successful completion of Bayou Galion signifies a milestone for the company as their first project in Louisiana. The project represents a $160 million investment aimed at delivering clean, reliable energy while also driving local job creation and economic development. Guerrero emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships within the community to continue the development and operation of future projects in the state.

The financing for the Bayou Galion project was coordinated by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc., while construction was completed by Primoris Renewables Energy, Inc., utilizing local vendors to support the regional economy. This collaboration showcases the commitment to economic development while addressing the essential transition to renewable energy sources in Louisiana.
