Huntington Bank Partners with the University of Michigan

In a significant development, Huntington Bank has been named the official consumer bank of the University of Michigan, marking a deepened partnership aimed at providing innovative financial services to the university's vast community. This collaboration is set to benefit over 100,000 students, faculty, and staff, ensuring they have access to personalized banking solutions and financial education right on campus.

Features of the Partnership

Among the exciting offerings made possible by this partnership are special checking account benefits that include waived monthly maintenance fees for select accounts. Additionally, the university's official identification card, the MCard, can now be linked to Huntington accounts, enabling students and staff to use it as a debit card effectively.

Further enhancing accessibility, Huntington plans to place six ATMs across the university campus, including one located in the brand-new D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion hospital. These conveniences are part of Huntington’s ongoing commitment to serve the University of Michigan community more robustly.

Financial Literacy Initiatives

In an effort to expand financial literacy among students, Huntington Bank has collaborated with the university to develop educational programming focused on enhancing students’ financial acumen. This initiative aims to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate their financial futures successfully.

The partnership also includes career-oriented programs, offering University of Michigan students a chance to engage in Huntington’s award-winning internship initiatives and the RISE (Recognizing Individuals for Sustained Excellence) program, which introduces students to potential careers in the financial sector.

In a notable commitment to support the university, Huntington has pledged $250,000 towards scholarships and the sponsorship of various student organizations, reinforcing its dedication to fostering educational growth and opportunity.

Strengthening Community Ties

Gary Torgow, the chairman of Huntington's board, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Huntington is proud to be the preferred banking partner for the University of Michigan community. We are committed to providing exceptional banking services and are excited about the opportunities this partnership presents.”

The decision to select Huntington as the official consumer bank for the university followed a thorough and competitive bidding process. Drew Smith, the interim vice president for finance at the university, noted that Huntington’s strong local presence and commitment to superior customer service were pivotal in the selection.

Comprehensive Banking Services

Huntington boasts a significant presence across Michigan with around 4,000 employees and approximately 300 branches. It has also been a leading originator of Small Business Administration (SBA) loans in the state since 2008, reflecting its strength in supporting local businesses alongside educational institutions.

Through this partnership, Huntington aims to not only provide banking services but to actively engage with the university community, promoting financial wellness among its members.
